There was a time I thought staying longer meant I was being responsible.
So I stayed.
Even when the environment started to feel heavier than the work itself. Even when I would leave my shift already drained before I even got home. Even when I started losing pieces of myself just trying to keep everything together.
I told myself, “This is life. Just endure it.”
But what I didn’t notice back then was this:
I wasn’t building a future there… I was slowly disappearing inside it.
And then it hit me—quietly, but clearly:
A toxic environment doesn’t reward your loyalty. It slowly normalizes your exhaustion.
So I made a decision that felt scary at the time, but honest.
I left.
Not because I had everything figured out, but because I finally stopped confusing survival with success.
That one decision changed the direction of my life.
And now looking back, I am grateful—not just that I found a better place to work, but that I also discovered a business that opened a future I used to think was only for other people. A future I was once too afraid to even imagine for myself.
What I once thought was impossible… slowly became my reality.
And here’s what I wish someone told me earlier:
You don’t always need to “handle it better.”
Sometimes you need to choose yourself before you lose yourself.
If this hits something in you… don’t ignore it.
