I'm delighted to share the fruits of an enriching 10 months of study and practice in the Systemic Team Coaching program developed by Peter Hawkins and the Global Team Coaching Institute (GTCI) and offered through Coaching.com! Over the course of the year, I had the pleasure of working with three highly engaged teams, a wonderful co-coach, a global learning group, and two supervision groups dedicated to deep reflection, co-creation, and mutual support. What a great experience!

Great advice that provides a tangible "hook" for those looking to embrace and develop a growth mindset!

From the article:

"Whether participants were studying current events or completing a writing task, those who were told to seek out discomfort ended up doing better at whatever task they were given.

"'Overall, the results suggest that we should seek out the feelings of awkwardness or discomfort that are often associated with personal growth, and interpret them as signs of progress towards our goals,' says the British Psychological Society's Research Digest blog summing up the results. Or, put simply, whether you're a comic, an entrepreneur, or an aspiring writer, aiming for awkwardness will help you improve faster than focusing on mastery alone."

In other words, embrace the suck!

Excellent infographic and highly actionable practices from Elizabeth Kiely. The resilience that's possible with the slight, but very powerful shift in mindset described here can make a big difference in attitude, energy levels, and behaviors -- all of which contribute to the grit and persistence required to cultivate success! Not to mention the psychological safety that comes with permission to be a human being who is constantly learning and growing. Good stuff!

Are you experiencing symptoms of burnout? Wondering how to reconnect with your sense of energy and engagement? This Inc. Magazine article is a lovely reminder (from a Nobel Laureate, no less!) of where to rediscover your wonder and innovation: Play!

"When we enjoy what we do, we want to do more of it, and lo and behold, we end up accomplishing more."

I particularly appreciate Julie Diamond's inclusion of self-blame in her "blame culture" definition (especially for those of us with a tendency toward perfectionism and/or anxiety-driven achievement), as well as the second practice mentioned for shifting culture, which can be summarized in the advice to "Ask not, 'Who’s at fault?' but 'Where did the process break down?'" Reminds me of the Japanese adage "Fix the problem, not the blame," which can be so useful to remember when things go sideways!

Here's an insightful article from Harvard Business Review that articulates the power of reflection in taking leadership skills to the next level.

"The practice itself is all about learning, looking back on the day (without bias or regret) to contemplate your behavior and its consequences. It requires sitting with yourself, taking an honest moment to think about what transpired, what worked, what didn’t, what can be done, and what can’t. Reflection requires courage. It’s thoughtful and deliberate. Being at the 'top of your game' only comes when you extract from your past how to engage the future.

"To get its full benefits, you must make reflection a habit. But it’s not simple. Generic questions like 'What am I grateful for today? What did I learn? What could I have done better?' are often too general to be helpful. So, what should you reflect upon?"

The article share the authors' research on what experiences proved to have the greatest impact on top leaders' development and tips for how to go about developing a sustainable reflection practice. Well worth a read!

This classic from Adam Grant popped up in one of my feeds today and struck me as a great reminder of the importance of prioritizing if we truly want to flourish. Which means making tough decisions (at every level of the organization), learning to say "no," and if course knowing our own values and priorities in the first place!

"Being prolific is not about time management. There are a limited number of hours in the day, and focusing on time management just makes us more aware of how many of those hours we waste.

"A better option is attention management: Prioritize the people and projects that matter, and it won’t matter how long anything takes.

"Attention management is the art of focusing on getting things done for the right reasons, in the right places and at the right moments."
