My name is MariAgnes Malkonian and I possess more than (25) years in the Health Insurance industry working with providers and hospitals regarding Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial Health Insurance and so much more! Throughout my career, I assisted both my parents and friends with a myriad of issues,helping to navigate the chaos of healthcare. (12 ) years ago, my Dad became very ill. As I assisted him

through his recovery, arranging for care, actually accompanying him on appointments, I was constantly correcting physician clinical mistakes, billing errors, and advocating for him as he was too weak to manage for himself. Upon a recent downsizing, I choose to take my career in another direction, assisting customers and caregivers with a variety of health care needs including insurance plan review, claims issues, patient intermediary, skilled nursing placement, advocating for the patient whenever needed. I’m not entirely sure I was aware of this law. But it feels like yet another example of an indiscriminate use of law enforcement’s time & the courts’ powers over family dynamics. Don’t misunderstand ….of course, children be kept safe. But from time to time over the years, I’ve been a responsible neighbor who has suspected child neglect. However during those times, contacting Child Protective Services along with the police ~ reporting children watching children, hearing screaming & crying… provided zero meaningful results for those situations and only placed me in the frightening position of dealing with neighbor retaliation.

My personal experiences aside & assessing the vagueness of this law, the fact remains: New York has no official legal minimum age for leaving a child home alone.
