Juan Antonia Smith II

It is with profound sadness that Rockdale County Fire Rescue announces the line-of-duty death of Firefighter Juan Antonia Smith II, who passed away on June 12, 2026.

Today, we honor a brave firefighter who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others. His courage, dedication, and selflessness exemplified the highest ideals of the fire service and will never be forgotten.

Though his watch has ended, his legacy will endure in the lives he touched, the community he served, and the brothers and sisters who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

Rest easy, Firefighter Smith. We have the watch from here. ❤️

EIGHTY TWO YEARS AGO TODAY, tens of thousands of American soldiers, sailors, and airmen along with thousands of allied troops, stormed the beaches of Normandy in Operation Overlord — D-Day — and saved the world. If you’re lucky enough to have one of these warriors in your life; hug them, shake their hand, thank them, and ask them their story.

We remember, and give thanks. 🇺🇸

This week we had the pleasure of having Madison Hall from Southern Company Gas and in intern from EKU. She was able to learn about FTIR, extractions, digital microscopy and other instruments used in forensic science and fire debris. We even got to do a few self-heating reactions!
