I wanted to make a post and talk about a major flaw with Solid State Drives (SSDs) I had stumbled across while diagnosing a computer. A customer's computer needed looked at due to it locking up completely to the point where it would need to be unplugged in order to restart it. Some times it would instead give the infamous windows Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD). Long story short, after asking questions and diagnosing the computer, I figured the problem had to be some where in a combination of the hard drive and the options of it being put into sleep and hibernation modes and how the SSD would react. After some Google searches I found this article talking about sleep mode causing different major issues with computers with certain types of SSDs with certain types of controllers. In some cases the computer going into sleep mode and then coming out of it was actually bricking up and killing some of the SSDs. In most cases though, it was just causing the computer to hang itself to the point of needing to power off or maybe unplug it to restart it. The problem is actually rare and exists in a certain number and type of SSDs with certain controllers. This article I found talks more a lot more about it the whole subject and was an interesting read. So if you were thinking of upgrading your desktop computer, or especially your laptop computer, to a SSD yourself, then you need to do quite a bit of research thoroughly on the drives you're looking to buy and use caution when selecting a new, or especially a used/refurbished SSD, because you could end up (in worse case scenario) bricking your SSD and losing all of your data on the drive and unlike Hard Disk Drives, data can't really be recovered from it.
