The Window Shop began in 1939 as a non-profit organization to support immigrants mainly from Germany and Austria escaping N***s. It began with a group of wives of Harvard professors. They created support services. In the 40s it morphed into a tea room, bakery and restaurant. My grandmother was a baker. She used to tell the story of when Jackie Kennedy, would visit the Shop. She baked with love. We grew up with a taste of European pastries. Eventually came through after wwii to highlight the amazing baker behind the organization that rescued so many immigrants. To their shock, the woman creating the best in was my grandmother, Evalee (neé Bailey) Washington. Happy Birthday Ma. The first civil rights activist I knew. We love you.
