Simple AF is winning on Instagram right now.

The algorithm is done with overproduced, perfectly polished content. It’s rewarding real, raw, and relatable posts.

Quick iPhone videos and real talk get way better watch time
People are exhausted by AI-perfect feeds, your unfiltered voice stands out

Instagram is boosting original content (even if it’s not fancy) and limiting recycled stuff ...“Good enough” posted consistently beats perfect posted never

You don’t need better graphics, longer captions, or pro editing.
You just need to show up as you are and hit post.

The winners right now aren’t the prettiest accounts, they’re the most real ones.
So if you’ve been overthinking your content… this is your sign to keep it simple.

Instagram is now limiting the reach of unoriginal content across feed posts and carousels too, not just Reels. If most of what you share is straight reposts or recycled stuff, your account won’t get pushed out to new people who don’t already follow you.

Here’s the real breakdown:
What changed:
Instagram has already been cracking down on unoriginal Reels for a while. Now they’re rolling the same rules out to regular feed posts and carousels over the next month.

What “unoriginal” actually means:
They’re not expecting you to snap every photo or design every graphic from absolute scratch.

What they DO care about is whether you added real value. Straight re-uploading someone else’s content with zero changes, sharing a meme with nothing added, or throwing together a carousel of other people’s posts with just a basic caption, these are the things that’ll get flagged. And nope, just tagging or crediting the original creator in the caption isn’t enough anymore.

What about templates?
Instagram confirmed that if you drop your own words into a template so it actually sounds like you, that counts as original. Jumping on a trending format and adding your personal take? Totally fine. But posting a blank template with zero customization or your own voice? That’s where you’ll run into trouble.
Bottom line: just make it yours

Most people are still chasing the next big viral trend that “everyone” will see.
But that era is quietly ending.

Welcome to the age of Cultural Bubbles.
Mass culture is fracturing. Instead of one shared mainstream, we now live in dozens of parallel cultural universes, each with its own language, values, memes, heroes, and inside jokes.

What’s trending in one bubble is completely invisible in another.
This changes everything for storytelling and branding:

Broad, one-size-fits-all messaging is losing power fast.
The brands winning right now are the ones who speak deeply and authentically to one specific bubble instead of trying to speak to everyone.

Depth beats reach. Connection beats mass appeal.

At Stone City, we research these bubbles, decoding the signals, language, and emotional triggers that actually make people stop, read, and feel something.
The game has shifted.

Are you adapting… or still broadcasting to a crowd that no longer exists?
