Stern 2019 Jurassic Park repair and maintenance.

T-Rex was having an issue eating the ball. The ball opto wires were completely disconnected. It was a good time to do some other upgrades and maintenance. Also had a broken coil stop screw.

Repaired the T-Rex
Rebuilt the flippers
Added Amber shooter rod
Upgraded Speakers
General Cleaning

This is a whole new experience now.

Had the pleasure of repairing this classic for Gene and the boys to tour again.

Got a call that another tech had checked this game out months ago and had told the customer to order a new solenoid driver board. The owner bought the board but couldn’t get the other tech to come back out once received.

Upon my arrival the machine booted but wouldn’t put a ball in the shooter lane. Checked the solenoid fuse under the playfield and it was blown. After inspecting the playfield and replacing the fuse, nothing looked amiss with the solenoids so I fired the game up and we had action!

A quick play test revealed that some switches were not registering. All the unresponsive switches were on the same column so a quick check of diodes was done. After those tested good, continuity was checked from the column wire to the mpu and we were missing signal. I quick repin of that connector brought everything back to life and KISS is rocking again. I made some adjustments to a couple switches, cleaned a sticky pop bumper skirt and adjust a couple poorly installed rubbers and the owner was super happy.

Unfortunately, the homeowner didn’t need the driver board, but has a spare if they can’t return it.

Electrohome G07 monitor repair. Came in to the shop with geometry issues.

Got it cleaned up, recapped, reflowed and adjusted. Ready to head back out to its home at the local arcade in Tyler.

Picked up this sick Ms. Pac-Man/ Galaga Class of 81 Reunion machine. It had been in this home for years and was missing the Ms. Pac-Man two-player start button because a family member was trying to repair it, but come to find out, neither start button had ever worked! It had almost 1700 Galaga plays and close to zero Ms. Pac-Man plays. The monitor was also missing green and was losing focus.

The machine got a nice cleaning inside and out, the monitor was rebuilt and repaired (bad IC on Neckboard fixed the green) and a new flyback to bring the focus back. I had to play a few rounds Ms Pac (and of course the hidden Pac-Man) and all is well.

This game is looking great and headed back out for all to enjoy again.

Stern Flight2000 with almost no life. Found previously repaired battery damaged MPU was spreading again and a bad rectifier board. Replaced both mpu and rectifier board with new pins+housings and all is well.

This Funhouse had been in this home for almost 20 years. They reached out to get some help with their malfunctioning game. The store they bought it from never told them it had batteries in it and of course imagine my surprise when I located the remote battery holder and all its corroded goodness.

Rudy was controlling many different parts inside the service menu without asking as soon as the game was powered on. The previous repair shop did add in a remote battery holder, but they didn’t remove the original battery holder, simply marking “bad” on it with sharpie, nor did they neutralize the battery damage that caused it to go bad. This corrosion continued through the switch matrix traces and ICs over the last 20 years causing the uncontrollable switch hits.

I removed the old CPU board, cleaned up the battery corrosion that was from the remote battery holder, and the game fired right up.

Next issue popped up was very weak and missing G.I. lighting. Two strands of G.I. lighting didn’t work at all and the other two were pretty weak. Upon inspection, there was a former repair done that had failed. This was all undone and a proper connector with Trifurcon pins was installed. G.I. came back to life and now Rudy and the owners were happy it was working again!
