From now on, Derby Day will be the day I held a horse brain in my hands! 🐴🧠📚

It’s been an incredible weekend of learning about the equine nervous system with Dr Stephen Peters. I’m putting the science behind what I’ve been practicing intuitively for years.

Can’t wait to turn around & help others on a deeper level! ⚙️

2026 has been a lot — in the best possible way.

Over the winter, I crammed what felt like a full year of growth into about three months. An applied animal behavior course that genuinely challenged my thinking. Curriculum work for Post University's equine program. And time at New Vocations, getting hands-on behaviorist experience with horses in transition. All of that alongside my work at MHF and in equine insurance.
Winter hibernation? Not exactly. 😝

Then came an invitation I didn't expect — teaching Equine Behavior at Midway University this semester. Saying yes was easy. Watching students engage with research and concepts that simply didn't exist when I was an undergrad? That part has been so rewarding.

What strikes me most is how much of this field is still being written. We're in a genuinely new era of understanding horse behavior — one grounded in neuroscience, welfare, and a willingness to ask 'why' instead of just pushing through. I've been quietly obsessed with these nuances for longer than I realized. The difference now is that there's a real, growing need for this work in the equestrian world.

As things settle over the coming weeks, I'll be opening availability to work with horse owners and professionals who are ready to look past the surface of what their horse is doing — and get to the 'why' behind it.

If that sounds like a conversation worth having, I'd love to connect. 🐴

"Horse Shopping has started to feel eerily similar to swiping through a dating app📲 ...
Still, the underlying problem is the same: we are trying to make meaningful decisions based on painfully incomplete information. We’re seeing a carefully curated snapshot and pretending it’s a whole story.

A sales ad tells us what a horse is on paper. Age. Breed. Size. Discipline. A highlight reel of talents and maybe a few quirks spun into something charming. But how often are we actually SEEING the horse?"

I had this same conversation with a friend today…”everybody knew”
The point that I like in this article is that while we need to expect more from top riders, we should ALL do better too. The whole industry needs to improve or we will all feel the brunt of inefficient regulation. It doesn’t need to go that far.
There are good trainers doing right by their horses & their people — so SUPPORT them. CELEBRATE them. Help them become the most well-known.

"[W]hen the accusations started slipping out — one by one — so did the whispers of ‘well, everyone here knew that’..."

‘"If you can’t teach without screaming, do something else."

In the wake of the latest accusations in the equestrian community, this powerful reader-submitted essay asks a hard question:
What happens to a sport when silence becomes tradition?

"It's surprisingly disheartening to make it to the top and realize your heroes aren't who you expected. Not knowing who your heroes are anymore is like losing your compass. You can still walk, but you're not sure if you're drifting toward purpose or just pacing in circles.
That's where I found myself at the start of this year. I was still working with my horses, but felt a little lost. And somewhere in that deep-dive, I realized I needed to go on a quest for new heroes. "

"[Horses] are constantly processing limited information from two different perspectives. And somehow, they learn to be calm in a world of visual uncertainties.
And that’s where the lesson hit me. We like to believe we see the full picture, that our version of reality is the one and only. But what if, like the horse, we’re only seeing half the story?"
