Meta Lee Tutterow, 68, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2021 at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center of Jackson, MS. Meta was born in Holmes County, was a graduate of Durant High School, and was a home maker.

Meta was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Harthcock, and her parents, Emmitt Harthcock and Meta Seay Harthcock.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph Tutterow; two sisters, Margie (and John) Laughery of West, MS and Patty Roberts of Ebenezer, MS; two brothers, James H. (Buddy) Harthcock of Durant, MS and Emmitt (and Sherry) Harthcock of Vicksburg, MS.

There will be a graveside service on Monday, March 1, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Pine Crest Cemetery. Bro. Larry Edwards will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Meta may be made to Pine Crest Cemetery.

Thelma Jean Barnes, 62, formerly of Durant, MS. passed away Thursday, February 25th, 2021. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents Henry Clayton and Betty Jean Myers Barnes.

She is survived by her sisters Cynthia Barnes Blankenship (David) of McCarley, MS; Sandra Kay Moore of Durant, MS; Wilma Carol (Jim) of Kosciusko, MS; and Brother Clayton Barnes (Liz) of Lexington, MS.

Juanita P. Smith, adored mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother transitioned from her earthly life of 93 years into her eternal life with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 21, 2021. Juanita was born in Tazewell, Tennessee on April 7, 1927 to the late Charley and Mattie Smith Payne. She resided in Lexington, MS for over 50 years where she was a devoted member of First Baptist Church. After retiring from the Mississippi State Employment Service, she delighted in volunteering at church, gardening, reading, and playing cards. Juanita was a kind, loving, compassionate, independent Christian woman with a quick wit and sense of humor. She loved the Lord and her family and set an example for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that will them lead them all their lives.

Juanita will join her husband of 40 years, Winstead Douglas Smith in heaven. She will also be reunited with her four sisters and three brothers. She leaves behind her daughter, Cindy Smith Kusnierz (Terry). Two grandchildren: Brian Kusnierz (Kathy) and Kelly Sims (Brian). Four great-grandchildren: Molly and Haley Sims, Colin, and Carter Kusnierz. A beloved Sister, Jimmie Walker and a host of nieces and nephews.

Nancy Farmer, 66 of Lexington went to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 27th, 2021. Nancy was born on August 31st, 1954 to Noel and Geneva Self.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Jerry Farmer of Lexington; her children, Chris and Christina Farmer of Hot Springs, Arkansas as well as James Brown of Lexington; grandchildren, Chyenne Farmer, Seth Smith, and Tim Clunan of Hot Springs, Arkansas; her brother and sister-in-law Guy and Rosemary Self of Lexington; along with many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Nancy was a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend. Many would say, however, that her proudest title was obtained when she became a “Nana.” Anyone that knew Nancy knew she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ more than anything. Nancy Jo was one of those people that helped any and everyone she could. She was a great role model, and will be truly missed by so many.

Pallbearers will be Linwood Genous, Sam Chambers, Dereck Hodges, James Self, Franky Farmer, and Chyenne Farmer. Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Word, Johnny Word, and Winford Ross.

There will be a service Sunday, January 31, 2021 at 2:30 pm at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in the Sand Hill Community. Bro. Wayne Hudson and Bro. Trae Earnhart will be officiating.

Marshall Lewis Hughes, 84, of Tchula, MS. passed away at his residence on Wednesday, January 27, 2021.

Marshall was born to the union of John S. and Eva Stevens Hughes, who preceded him in death. He worked as a bookkeeper for Ables Ford Company in Tchula for 30 Years and then for Hughes Farms. He was a member of the Horseshoe Baptist Church.

Marshall is survived by his brother Carl Victor Hughes and wife Liz of Tchula, MS, and many nieces and nephews.

Marshall was also preceded in death by his sisters Clara McBride, Gladys Self, Carrie Alderman, Marjorie Cox, and brothers Edward, William, John S., and Fredrick Hughes.

There will be a graveside service on Sunday, January 31, 2020 at the Pine Crest Cemetery in Tchula, MS. at 2:00 PM.

On Monday, January 25, 2021, Tamara “Tammy” Jo Killebrew Merchant went to be with her Lord and Savior at age 57.

Tammy was born on August 31, 1963 in Lexington, MS to Peggy Jo White Killebrew and the late James Edward Killebrew. Growing up on Horseshoe, Tammy graduated from Cruger-Tchula Academy and furthered her education at Holmes Junior College and received her degree.

On October 4th, 1986, she married Paul Christopher Merchant at Horseshoe Baptist Church. In 1997, they welcomed home their daughter in Memphis, TN.

Tammy was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and daughter and sister-in-“love”.

While residing in Bartlett, TN, Tammy worked as an associate accountant at Trammell Crow Company. Upon moving to Greenwood, MS, she worked at Central Holmes Christian School, where she helped with Student Council, Bookkeeper, and Sports Secretary.

Tammy had a passion for writing, especially poems for her loved ones on special occasions. She had a talent for gardening and spent much of her free time in her greenhouse with her husband growing whatever seeds they could get their hands on. She enjoyed having tea parties with her niece, Nora Katherine Cheatham, who referred to her as “Tambam”. She loved teaching her daughter, Nikki Boutwell, how to cook and spending time together. Tammy had a gift for music. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing. She had such a strong faith that sustained her through numerous health battles.

Tammy is survived by her husband, Paul C. Merchant of Greenwood, her daughter, Gabrielle Nicole (Nikki) Merchant Boutwell and Trent Boutwell of Satartia, her mother, Peggy Jo Killebrew of Lexington, her brothers, James Thad and Kelly Montone Killebrew of Lexington, and John Travis and Joyce Spencer Killebrew of Lexington, her sister, Carrie Rose Cheatham and Swayze of Yazoo City, and her nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service at Coxburg Methodist Church will take place at 12:00 on Friday, January 29, 2021. Mask and social distancing required.

James Dale Hendrick, 63, of West, MS went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 20, 2021, due to complications from a chronic lung disease. He was born April 24, 1957, in Clearwater, FL. and later moved to Clinton, MS. He attended Clinton High School where he also played football. He married Lynda Patrick in 1992 and moved to a farm in West, MS. where he raised Golden Retrievers and Quarter Horses. Some of his favorite activities were attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking crawfish, the Smokey Mountains and riding his Harley with his best buddies. Of all the jobs he had over the years, he most of all loved his job at the Dock on the Reservoir.

He is preceded in death by his parents William Donald Hendrick and Margaret Johnson Hendrick.

A social distancing visitation will begin at 10:00 am followed by the service at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at Southern Funeral Home, Lexington, MS. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 pm at the Flora Cemetery, Flora, MS. Masks are required to be worn.

Roy Lee Austin, 63, of Lexington, Mississippi was called to his heavenly home on January 18, 2021 surrounded by his family and friends. Roy was born January 26, 1957 in Morgan City, Louisiana to Alton Roy Austin and Beverly Lee Austin and was the oldest of three children. Roy graduated from Morgan City High School as Valedictorian in 1975 and graduated from LSU in 1979. Roy was a devoted LSU fan. Roy started his accounting career in New Orleans, Louisiana at Arthur Anderson Accounting Firm. Roy retired from Entergy as a State and Local Tax Manager, CPA January 31, 2020. He was known as “The Man, The Myth and The Legend” by his friends and co-workers at Entergy.

Roy loved doing genealogy research for his family and help others find their family genealogy. Roy was an avid reader, loved entertaining, traveling and cooking for a large crowd. Roy even became trained as a Girl Scout cook so he could go to his daughter, Ashley’s Girl Scout campouts. Roy was co-leader with his wife Cherie for Ashley’s troop in Houston, Texas and lead the troop to complete their Gold Award. Roy moved to many different locations during his career and always made friends with his new church family. Roy and Cherie moved to Lexington, Mississippi in July 2020 to retire among friends of Sand Hill Road. Roy served the Lord Jesus Christ in life and in the different churches he attended working with children and an ordained deacon.

Roy was preceded in death by his mother Beverly Lee Austin.

Roy is survived by his wife of 39 years, Cherie Monnerjahn Austin of Lexington, Mississippi and daughter Ashley (Carey) Keller of San Antonio, Texas. His dad Alton Roy Austin of Morgan City, Louisiana, two brothers Curtis (Lori) Austin of Woodlands, Texas and Jerry Austin of Morgan City, Louisiana . His grandchildren Zoe and Jeremiah Keller of San Antonio, Texas. His aunt Ann Lee of Silverthorne, Colorado and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins whom he dearly loved. Family was extremely important to Roy.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church of Lexington, Mississippi. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Rev. Gene Richards officiating.

The family would like to thank the staff of St. Dominic Hospital for their loving care during Roy’s final weeks due to Covid pneumonia.

Sandra Diane Malone Ables was born on April 9th, 1950 and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 8th, 2021, at University Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 10th, 2021 at Antioch Cemetery in Brozville, with Rev. Lynn Nations and Rev. Joe McGaw officiating.

Sandra was born and raised in Lexington, Mississippi. She operated Sandra's Cut-N-Curl for many years with deep affection for all her faithful customers. She also baked and decorated cakes as part of her living.

Sandra was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church and served there in several capacities.

She loved her family dearly and will be remembered by her children and grandchildren as the best cook (especially jelly), quiltmaker, Gin Rummy master and fisherman.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, William Earl, and Mildred Malone. She leaves behind the love of her life of 48 years, Billy Mac Ables of Coxburg; her three sons, Billy Mac Ables, Jr. (Ginny) of Kosciusko, Kevin P. Ables (Hope) of Flora, and Keith W. Ables (Lanie) of Benton; her grandchildren, Brook and Mary Kellum of Kosciusko; Mason, Patrick, Haleigh and Alley Grace of Flora; Bryce, Jaelyn, and Mason of Benton; her two brothers, William Earl "Bubba" Malone, Jr. of Benton and Joe A. Malone (Paula) of Coxburg; and many nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Patrick Ables, Bryce Ables, Brooks Ables, Daniel Malone, William L. Spell, Jr., and Jeremy Floyd. Honorary pallbearers will be Mason Ables, Raymond Arnett, Joe Malone, Bubba Malone, Jimmy Drennan, and John Harris Ables.

William Aron “Billy” Lewis Jr., 83, died Saturday, January 2, 2021, at Merritt Health-Rankin. The funeral service will be Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at 11:00 A.M, at Durant First United Methodist Church with Martin Frazure and David Cain officiating. A graveside service will follow at Mizpah Cemetery in Durant, MS.

Billy was born in Coffeeville, MS on May 6, 1938, to Sally Martin and William Aron “Joe” Lewis Sr. He was a graduate of Durant High School and Holmes Junior College. He retired after 35 years of employment with Entergy.

He and his wife, Gayle, were active members of Durant First United Methodist Church where he served as the Adult Sunday School teacher, member of the Methodist Men’s Club, was on the pastor parrish committee, and was lay leader. He was an active and faithful member of the North Mississippi Emmaus Community, and he was involved with the Kairos Prison Ministry at Parchman.

Billy is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Gayle Streetman Lewis; son, Kent Lewis and wife, Ginger of Tupelo, MS; daughter, Jeri Jo McCleskey and her husband, Ray of Goodman, MS; brother, Dale Lewis and wife, Gladys Marie, of Kosciusko, MS; and 5 grandchildren.

Patricia Ann Devine Pickle, 82, passed away Thursday at the Baptist Medical Center Attala in Kosciusko, MS.

Mrs. Pickle was a resident of Durant, MS. and was a member of the Durant Church of Christ. Mrs. Pickle was a retired LPN, having worked at a number of Hospitals and Nursing Homes in the area.

She is survived by her daughters Debbie Wheeler of Deer Park, AL; Beth Engelman of Durant, MS; and Sue Mills of Pizgah, MS; sons C. D. Pickle Jr. of Parchman, MS; David Pickle and wife Robin of Durant, MS.

She is also survived by a sister Barbara Davis of Kosciusko, MS and brothers Buster Devine of Durant, MS and Perry Devine of Saucier, MS; 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Shorty and Lucille Devine, and her husband C. D. Pickle; son Charles Pickle; grandson Donald Cotton; and sister Hope Harrell.

Graveside services will be Sunday, December 20th, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at the Brister Cemetery near Durant, MS.

Sara Elizabeth Killebrew, of Madison, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2020 due to the Covid-19 complications she experienced while in the womb. Her parents, Dr. Alyssa Tyson Ellis and Keath Gwin Killebrew cradled her in their arms as they faced the unexpected and heartbreaking task of meeting their youngest daughter and saying goodbye at the same time. Though their loss was tragic, Sara Elizabeth’s parents are determined to honor their daughter’s memory both through their work as well as through their realization that our time on earth is our greatest privilege and it should not be taken for granted.

Sara Elizabeth is preceded in death by her great-grandparents Mr. O.J. and Garnett Keeler Scott of Gunnison, MS; John Tucker Pierce of Coxburg, MS; William Reedy II and Sarah Elizabeth Wilkins Ellis of Lexington, MS; Gertrude Irene Killebrew of Tchula, MS; and beloved chosen family member Sara Barrett Harvey Roberts of Madison, MS.

She is survived by parents Dr. Alyssa Tyson Ellis and Keath Gwin Killebrew as well as their daughter Vivian Keeler Killebrew of Madison, MS; great-grandmother Helen Ferrell Pierce of Jackson, MS; grandparents William Reedy "Billy" Ellis III of Ridgeland, MS; Sally Belle Scott of Oxford, MS; Zack and Jill Killebrew of Thornton, MS; Pamela Pierce Killebrew of Madison, MS; great-aunt Linda Killebrew Johnson of Tchula, MS; aunts and uncles Heather Ellis and Richard Sellers of Ridgeland, MS; William Scott Ellis of Austin, Texas; Drs.
