🦝 Sometimes the best raccoon removal strategy is getting the mother raccoon to do the work for us.

This is some awesome trail-camera footage from a recent raccoon project.

During our inspection, we discovered a female raccoon with a very young, late-season litter inside the home. The pups were still too young to follow the female outside, making trapping less than ideal — removing the adult could have left inaccessible pups inside the structure and required cutting into finished areas of the home to retrieve them.

Instead, we used a maternal raccoon eviction process that works with the animal’s natural biology and denning behavior to encourage the mother to relocate her pups herself.

And that’s exactly what happened.

Our camera captured the female emerging through the soffit carrying one of her pups as she relocated the litter to another den site.

We’ll continue monitoring to verify the animals have fully vacated before permanently securing the entry point with steel.

It’s a pretty incredible piece of wildlife behavior — and a great example of why wildlife removal isn’t always as simple as setting a trap.

Sometimes the best wildlife exclusion is the one you barely notice.

This covered back patio had an unusual problem. The open rafter construction terminated over an enclosed soffit, leaving more than 20 openings that birds and squirrels could use to access the space.

Over the years, those openings had been filled with just about anything that might work — cardboard, bricks, license plates, bird spikes and more. It wasn’t pretty, and it wasn’t solving the problem.

Once we removed everything and cleaned out the accumulated bird nesting material, we found one more surprise: a squirrel nest with three young squirrels tucked inside. The mother was nearby keeping a close eye on us, so we placed the young at the back of the property where she could retrieve them and relocate them herself.

Then we got to work on the permanent solution.

Each of the 22 rafter bays was individually fitted with white perforated steel Pest Blok. The material maintains airflow while creating a durable wildlife barrier, and we fabricated each piece with the bends and attachment points hidden from view. No exposed screws, no bulky patches — just a clean installation that blends into the existing structure.

Wildlife exclusion should solve the problem without looking like wildlife exclusion.

Groundhogs are excellent diggers—but that doesn’t mean you have to build a fortress three feet underground to keep them out.

We recently installed this professional-grade dig barrier around a backyard shed where groundhog activity was the primary concern.

The key is the down-and-out design. Rather than simply extending straight down, the barrier turns outward underground. Burrowing wildlife naturally digs at the edge of the structure trying to regain access—and encounters the barrier below and in front of them.

We construct our dig barriers using 16-gauge, ½” × ½” galvanized steel welded wire with a black PVC coating for additional protection below grade. Whenever possible, we also conceal the upper edge behind existing siding or restore the surrounding grade so the finished installation practically disappears.

Strong enough to stop burrowing wildlife. Subtle enough that you barely know it’s there.

Another custom Trifecta IronSeal crawlspace door installed! 🔨

This one was a big one—approximately 45” × 41”. The photos really don’t convey just how massive this door is.

The old wooden door had seen better days, so we replaced it with a custom-built, insulated steel IronSeal designed specifically for the opening.

Think a raccoon needs a big hole to get into your attic? Watch this. 👀🦝

This is a perfect example of why vinyl soffits can be such a vulnerable point on a home.

Vinyl soffit is designed to stay in place under normal conditions, but it isn’t designed to resist an animal pushing up from underneath. A determined raccoon can simply flex the material, pop it out of the channel, and climb right into the attic.

That’s why proper wildlife exclusion often means more than just closing an obvious hole. Vulnerable soffit areas need to be reinforced so they can actually withstand the animals trying to get in.

Sometimes the best explanation is just watching a raccoon demonstrate it for you. 😄

Sometimes the old solution just doesn’t quite fit. Literally. 😄

The original chimney caps on this Lexington home weren’t properly sized for the flues — including a square cap sitting over a round flue opening. A bit of a “square peg in a round hole” situation. They had essentially been mortared into place and lifted right off by hand, meaning a good Kentucky wind could have eventually done the same thing.

Time for an upgrade.

We removed the old caps and installed this custom-fabricated stainless steel chimney cap, built to properly cover and protect the entire chimney while still allowing plenty of ventilation.

A much better fit, a much cleaner look, and a solution built to stay put.

This time, our mysterious porch visitor hung around past sunrise and was finally caught on camera!

Not every bat hanging on a house is living inside it. Sometimes a protected exterior spot simply makes a convenient nighttime roost.
