I've been my own best client lately as I sort through my garage and house. This week - painting. Not exactly a normal service, but I am the family painter. Always nice to spend some time with "old friends".

One would think I'd have set up a camera to record all the cleaning out of the garage. But I didn't. I was too focused on the task. And I got A LOT done!

Good morning Kansas City!
First I hope everyone made it through the storm last night relatively unscathed. We had 1-3.5” hail across the metro
I’ll be running inspections all day. If you or anyone you know were affected, send me a message and secure a timeslot for your free inspection!

Taming the Bathroom Cabinet.

Moving day isn't the only time to clean out the bathroom cabinet. You spend a lot of time in the bathroom and look at and utilize that cabinet often. Let's tame it and make it work for you.

*Get started by grabbing a trash bin.
*Pull everything out and look for those expiration dates. If it's expired, toss it. Medicines, vitamins, lotions, whatever your cabinet is holding, it needs to be current... and keep you healthy. So, toss it if it's expired.
*Don't use it? Toss it. Hate it but there's still so much of it left? Toss it. Be thoughtful about what you really use and need, and how much space you have.
*If the shelves are overflowing, you're missing things and the things aren't getting used.
*Next, give those shelves a good wipe down.
*Finally, put back what you're keeping.

Did you play the "what's the oldest expiration date I found" game? Drop your oldest date in the comments and what it belonged to. This really is one of my favorite things because we ALL do it. We really are all in this together!

When the project list (project, not task) is 53 items long (and growing), and one item simply says "Garage: all the things". Overwhelm is a reasonable response.

The Junk Drawer!

We all have one. Some will say they're unnecessary and a waste of space. Oh, don't listen to that kind of negativity! We all have onesie, twosie items that just don't have another home. But, let's also curate this drawer with intention.

*Grab some multi-sized little bins (head to the $ store, look around for what you have on hand (don't underestimate the uses of an ice cube tray), or order a package on-line) to prepare for this project. Nothing crazy, but a variety of different-sized bins are the key to keeping the junk drawer organized.
*Empty out your drawer and get ready to be brutal in your assessment of what you keep. Just because you've had it for years, well, that's the point now isn't it. It may very well be time to toss it.
*Group like items together, minimize what you keep. Play a little Tetris with those bins and create a space that handles your miscellaneous items with style.

Once you're done, snap and photo and share in the comments. I'll bet we've all got some similar items in our "junk drawer".

Bonus for you.

I may or may not have started about a half a dozen personal projects over the past week. 😳😬

And I may or may not feel a little dizzy and like my head is going to explode! 🤯🤪

Silly Sharon. You know better. Starting multiple projects at once may cause overwhelm!

Time to step back and reassess. One project at a time! That's better.

Tame the Containers!

How does this drawer/cabinet get so out of control so easily? And where do the lids go? No worries, you've got this.

*Empty that drawer/cabinet and gather all the plastic containers and lids together.
*Start matching. Any odd ones? Toss them. Yes, toss them.
*Quick evaluation: bubbled plastic, warped, or stained containers should probably be tossed, especially if they are technically single-use containers. And if they've been microwaved multiple times? Yes, the integrity of the container has been compromised. Time to replace (and consider switching to glass).
*I know it's tempting to keep every size and shape of everything, but this is the time to be a little more discerning and whittle down to what you actually use, and what you realistically have space for. Set your space up for success by not over filling it.
*Putting your drawer/cabinet back together, consider what will work best for your space. Lids in one drawer/bin and containers in another? Lids ON containers?

The less you have, the more likely it will stay contained and neat. Drop a photo in the comments of your newly organized container space (we can all use some inspiration).

It's spice cabinet week!

This is one of the funnest and easiest spots to tame. I always like to make a game of it - what is the oldest expiration date I find?
*Grab a trash bin and start pulling everything out.
*Find those expiration dates. If you're having trouble seeing them, snap a photo and blow it up on your phone. Works like a charm. If it's expired - toss it. It hasn't been used yet, don't fool yourself into thinking it will within the next few weeks. Go ahead and let it go.
*Next, wipe down your shelves, roundabouts, etc. and set a nice clean space.
*Now, it's time to put it all back together. Quick thought: did the layout work for you? If not, rethink it. Do you need a graduated tier shelf? How about a roundabout? What about only using the perimeter of the shelf, leaving the center open to see and access the labels? Try something new. You might just find a new joy in your cabinet.

Comment below if you took the challenge, and the oldest expiration date you found. No judgement. We're all in this together.
