Love Your Land Phil

Love Your Land Phil Sometimes, it’s easy to throw things in the trash because it seems like they just disappear. But, they don’t. They go to Phil. He handles it all beautifully.

As it turns out, though, some things aren’t good for him.

The first Friday in September marks National Food Bank Day. Today, we challenge you to feed hungry mouths instead of Land Phil!

When we donate to our local food banks, we not only reduce food waste taking up space in the garbage, but we also give back to our community and help those in need. To find out where to donate in Lincoln, head to the link in the comments.

Do NOT bag your recyclables.

It's a common recycling misstep to toss your bottles, cans, and cardboard into a bag before placing them in the bin. But bags only slow down the sorting process, damage expensive equipment, and risk recycling being thrown away.

Instead, leave your recyclables loose, clean, and dry to make sure it can be successfully sorted.

Happy tailgating season! As you gear up to cheer on your favorite teams, remember to help keep our public spaces clean.

Recycle what you can. Metal, aluminum, and tin cans, along with plastics #1, #2, and #5, can go in the recycling bin.

Share your leftovers. Be a good sport and share any extra pregame snacks instead of throwing them away.

Pick up after the party. Be sure to collect any litter left behind and toss it in the garbage so Land Phil can take care of the rest.

What's the deal with discarding rechargeable batteries? 🪫

These aren't your typical AA or AAA batteries. When we say rechargeable batteries, we mean lithium-ion batteries often found in tools, toys, and tech.

Lithium-ion batteries cannot go in the trash or recycling. Instead, they need to be properly recovered to help keep potentially hazardous and flammable materials out of the waste stream while allowing valuable materials to be safely recovered and reused.

When you're done with your rechargeable batteries, take them to HazToGo, Lincoln's Hazardous Waste Center, for safe and proper recovery.
