Rechargeable batteries can bring the kind of off-camera drama that stops the whole show.

When they’re tossed in the trash or recycling, they can spark fires during collection—especially if they get crushed.

When you’re done with them, Sort It Out! by setting rechargeable batteries (and devices with built-in batteries) aside and take them to a battery collection site instead of throwing them in the trash. Stay safe!

Today's Sort It Out Challenge is a double-or-nothing round!

Before you toss it, use it one more time. An old toothbrush can tackle grout, a milk jug can shield plants from a freeze, and a lonely sock can dust window blinds.

Let us know your best reuse tips in the comments for how you score big before the final toss.

Before you toss it, ask yourself:
• Is this really trash?
• Can I still use it?
• Can I clean it?
• Can I fix it?
• Can I donate it?

Next time you're at the trash can, become a Toss Boss!

Food waste is today’s biggest category on the board, and you’ve got a real shot at turning food waste into a win.

Before you play, here’s a free tip: check the fridge, make a list, and buy only what you’ll eat. That’s how you start shrinking the 22.7% of Lincoln's Bluff Road Landfill that’s already filled with food waste.
