Although our seasonal tick treatments are wrapping up for another year, each season is a reminder of how important tick prevention and control are for Maine homeowners. It’s also worth remembering that ticks are part of a larger cycle involving animals such as mice, which can carry the bacteria that cause Lyme disease.

🦇 SEEING THESE LITTLE BLACK DROPPINGS AROUND YOUR WINDOWS? YOU MAY HAVE BAT ACTIVITY.
Bat activity can be easy to miss because bats are usually active when we’re not watching. But there are some clues homeowners can look for.
📸 Take a look at these photos from a recent inspection. The dark, elongated droppings around the window and exterior area are consistent with bat guano and can be an important clue that bats are using an opening nearby.
🦇 Signs to watch for:
• Small, dark droppings accumulating below an exterior opening, window, roofline, or siding
• Droppings that may contain tiny insect fragments and can crumble more easily than typical rodent droppings
• Staining or dark marks around a possible entry point
• Bats repeatedly flying around your home at dusk
• Occasional scratching or movement sounds in an attic or wall void
• Droppings or debris collecting beneath a suspected roosting area
⚠️ Important: Bat guano can look similar to other pest droppings, so don't assume every dark dropping means bats are present. Proper identification matters before deciding on treatment.
And remember—finding an entry point doesn't necessarily mean you should simply seal it up. If bats are actively using the structure, exclusion needs to be handled carefully and at the appropriate time so bats aren't trapped inside.
🦇 If you’re finding unexplained droppings around your home, let a professional take a closer look. Identifying what is leaving the evidence is the first step toward solving the problem.

🐜🕷️ PEST CONTROL MYTHS: BUSTED! 🐭🪰
There are A LOT of pest control myths out there—and some of them can actually make pest problems harder to solve!
Let’s clear up a few common ones. 👇
❌ MYTH #1: “If I don’t see bugs, I don’t have bugs.”
✅ FACT: Many pests are nocturnal, hidden, or living inside walls, attics, crawlspaces, or other areas you don't normally see. Seeing one pest can sometimes be a sign that others are nearby.
❌ MYTH #2: “A one-time treatment will permanently eliminate my pest problem.”
✅ FACT: Pest control is about managing pest populations and addressing the conditions that attract or allow them inside. Some situations require follow-up treatments, monitoring, or exclusion work.
❌ MYTH #3: “More pesticide means better pest control.”
✅ FACT: Effective pest management isn't about using the most product possible. Proper identification, correct application, timing, sanitation, and exclusion are all important parts of responsible pest management.
❌ MYTH #4: “If I have a clean house, I can’t get pests.”
✅ FACT: Clean homes can still have pests! Rodents, ants, spiders, flies, and other insects can enter through tiny openings or come inside looking for food, water, warmth, or shelter.
❌ MYTH #5: “If I seal one hole, the rodents will be gone.”
✅ FACT: Rodents are excellent at finding alternative entry points. Effective rodent control often involves identifying and addressing multiple potential entry points—not just the one you happened to find. Alongside effective rodent stations placements exclusion reduces activity.
❌ MYTH #6: “Professional pest control means my home will be completely bug-free.”
✅ FACT: No responsible pest professional can promise that your property will have ZERO pests. The goal is to reduce pest populations, prevent access where possible, and keep activity under control.
❌ MYTH #7: “If I wait until I see a lot of pests, then I’ll call.”
✅ FACT: With many pest problems, early detection and proactive prevention can make management much easier—and sometimes less expensive—than waiting for a full-blown infestation.
🐜 GOOD PEST CONTROL ISN’T JUST ABOUT KILLING BUGS.
It’s about identifying the pest, understanding WHY it’s there, addressing the conditions contributing to the problem, and creating a plan to manage it.
At Advanced Pest Solutions, we believe in educating our customers so they understand not only what we’re treating, but why we’re treating it.

🍂 FALL IS COMING… AND SO ARE THE WINTER PESTS! 🐞🪰
As temperatures begin to drop, two common fall invaders start looking for a warm place to spend the winter: Asian lady beetles and cluster flies.
You may notice them gathering around sunny sides of your home, windows, doors, siding, and other areas where they can find entry points.
Here’s something important to understand about fall pest control:
👉 Treatment can greatly reduce the number of these pests that enter your home — but it cannot guarantee complete elimination.
Why? These insects are already present in the environment and can travel from surrounding trees, fields, and neighboring properties. They may also find tiny cracks, gaps, and openings that aren't practical or possible to completely seal.
🏠 What can professional pest control do?
A properly timed exterior treatment can:
✔️ Reduce the number of insects attempting to enter
✔️ Treat common areas where they gather
✔️ Create a protective barrier around the structure
✔️ Help reduce pest activity inside your home
✔️ Work alongside exclusion efforts to minimize entry points
The goal is reduction, not a promise of zero bugs.
For the best results, fall treatments should be done before these pests settle in for the winter. Combining professional treatment with sealing cracks, repairing screens, and addressing other entry points can provide the greatest level of protection.
🐞 Asian lady beetles and cluster flies are part of living in Maine — but that doesn't mean you have to welcome them inside!
