I'd rather see a team use and appreciate three benefits than have ten sitting unused on a sheet.

A few things I look at when I run a free review:

→ Enrollment vs. eligibility — how many people who could use a benefit actually signed up

→ Utilization data — is anyone using the telehealth or mental health line at all

→ Overlap — are you paying for something employees already have another way to access

→ Communication — was the benefit ever actually explained, or just listed in a packet

Here's a story that explains why prevention is worth more than people think.

A giant ship's engine failed. Nobody could figure out why.

Finally, an old engineer was called in. He looked the engine over, reached into his bag, and gently tapped one small spot with a hammer.

The engine roared back to life.

A week later, the owners got his bill: $10,000.

Stunned, they demanded an itemized invoice. It came back:

Tapping with a hammer: $2
Knowing where to tap: $9,998

Here's why I bring this up: healthcare works the same way. The value isn't in the treatment after something breaks down. It's in knowing where to look before it does.

I like to help business owners find the "tap point" early, the checkup, the screening, the small habit change that prevents the $10,000 problem down the road.

Sometimes it’s just being thoughtful about how payroll and benefits work.
