reater impact on the world in their own way. I was born and raised in the small town of London, Ohio. I am the oldest of 5 siblings. I grew up in a very low income family. I moved out on my own when I was 18 and went to college while I worked in the food/customer service industry. I had various food service jobs, administrative jobs and an internship in Wedding/Event planning. After my internship was over I found a full time job with a restaurant in Hospitality Sales and Marketing doing Event Planning and Sales. I worked there for 4 years helping plan/organize events. I loved planning, organizing and helping people, but there was just something missing. Well in July of 2016, I was let go from that job. Now if we are being honest - I was not fully invested any longer and I'm sure they could see that. I wasn't able to put my own ideas in place, I couldn't do things my way. I was no longer excited to get up and start working. I dreaded the commute, the hours and eventually was just unhappy there. At the time I was let go, it was terrifying to go from having a steady job to having nothing! But looking back I now know it was a blessing in disguise. So I started taking clients for my Professional Organizing business Clutter Control. A week after I was let go I had my first client! I worked with my first client and LOVED IT! Same thing with my second client and the third. I booked more and more clients throughout the year. So fast forward a little - I was spending ALL of my time on my business. I mean ALL of it. Taking clients, the commute back and forth to them, creating and updating my website, creating business cards, promoting on social media, checking my email, creating ads and working on my never ending task list trying to build a business. Then I was trying to keep up with the household - you know the kids activities, family events, birthday parties, holidays, mountains of laundry and dishes, cleaning up the kids toys a million times, meal planning and grocery shopping, bills and finances, deep cleaning (wait who are we kidding - this didn't happen lol)
It got to the point that my kids would say "Dad will you play with us, mommy can't she is always working" (Talk about MOM GUILT!)
Everything I had heard about owning a business was how much more freedom and joy it gave you compared to a 9-5 job. I so did NOT have that. I wanted SO badly for my business to work. I wanted SO badly to contribute an income doing what I loved but still have free time with my kids. But I was going about it all wrong. Finally I figured it out. I didn't know what my goals were - yes I know that sounds silly but starting a business can really through you off kilter and sometimes you forget to go through the simple steps. So I didn't know my goals, I had clutter everywhere, I had NO systems in place, I took on too many things, I said yes to everything, I was getting up every morning with no plan, I was winging it. I was not accomplishing anything. Yes I may have crossed a couple things off my list - but I accomplished nothing. I was stressed all the time and felt like a failure. So I cleared the clutter from my home and office, I put systems in place instead of just winging it, I stopped saying yes to everything and I planned out my days, weeks and months in advance. Then through business coaching and personal growth, I realized that I could make a bigger impact on the world and not just clients in my little corner of the world. I could teach moms to organize their family life and business life. I could teach them the systems I used to help me go from BUSY and OVERWHELMED to running a business and still having free time.
Kinda like that saying "Give a Man a Fish, and You Feed Him for a Day. Teach a Man To Fish, and You Feed Him for a Lifetime." I want to make that lifetime impact. So Clutter Control Coaching was born. Cue 3 Interations and rebrands and we are now Brittany & Co. We do consulting, group coaching, run a podcast, do events (more coming soon!) and more! I am excited to embark on this journey with you and teach you the systems I put in place (and still use today!) to go from overwhelm and missing out on my family to loving my business and raising my family. I want that for you. You only live once - how do you want to spend your time?
