Police shooting of teenager with autism and cerebral palsy in Pocatello, Idaho (April 5, 2025)
​The incident occurred on April 5, 2025, in Pocatello, Idaho, when police shot and killed Victor Perez, a 17-year-old boy with autism and cerebral palsy. Police were called to the scene after receiving a 911 call about a man with a knife who appeared to be intoxicated. When they arrived, they found Perez sitting in his yard holding a large knife. Police ordered Perez to drop the knife, but he refused and stood up and walked toward them. Four officers opened fire within 12 seconds of leaving their patrol car, shooting Perez multiple times. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, underwent multiple surgeries, and had one of his legs amputated. After a week in the hospital, Perez was taken off life support and died on April 12, 2025.
Perez's family has filed a lawsuit against the city of Pocatello, alleging excessive force and emotional distress. The incident has sparked outrage in the community, with protests and candlelight vigils outside the hospital and city hall. An employee at a Nashville elementary school was stabbed to death after arriving at work on the morning of April 14.

Niurka Alfonso-Acevedo, 52, had just arrived at her job at Chadwell Elementary School around 6 a.m. when the attack took place, a spokesperson for Metro Nashville Police tells PEOPLE.

Alfonso-Acevedo had been working at the school as a custodian, says the spokesperson.

One of her fellow employees called 911 after arriving at the school and finding her body in the parking lot, according to the MNPD spokesperson.

After investigating the scene, MNPD named the victim's estranged husband, 54-year-old Candido Raul Rubio-Perez, as a suspect in the case.

Detectives believe that Rubio-Perez was waiting for Alfonso-Acevedo in the parking lot when she arrived at the school on Monday morning.

MNPD is now searching for Rubio-Perez, who had not been captured as of Tuesday morning, the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, Metro Nashville Schools announced in a letter to parents that classes would be relocated for the day while the police secured the crime scene.

The killing occurred prior to the start of the school day, and by the time students began to arrive, the district had buses ready to take them to a nearby middle school for classes so police could investigate.

📰 JACKSONVILLE POLICE SHOOTING LEADS TO MAN'S DEATH

📍 Jacksonville, Florida — On March 30, 2025, Jacksonville police officers shot and killed Alquan Suydam (28) after he allegedly assaulted his pregnant girlfriend and was armed with a firearm.
🔺 Three days earlier, a similar report was made, but Suydam fled the scene before officers arrived.
🕵️‍♂️ When officers arrived at the Kings Trail Apartments, they found Suydam in the passenger seat of a car. As they approached, he exited the vehicle and began walking away with his hand in his pocket. Despite repeated commands to show his hands, Suydam turned around and pointed a gun directly at the officers.
🚨 In response, three officers fired, striking Suydam in his lower body. After he dropped the weapon, officers took him into custody and administered emergency medical care. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
📹 The police have released bodycam footage showing the moments leading to the shooting.
🕊️ The incident is still under investigation.

On April 4, 2025, an Ohio State Trooper was assaulted while responding to a traffic accident on the Ohio Turnpike in Mahoning County. The suspect, 30-year-old Deshawn Dante Leeth from Michigan, allegedly attacked the officer, attempted to take his firearm, and stole the patrol vehicle before fleeing toward Pennsylvania. A high-speed chase ensued, ending in Beaver County when Pennsylvania State Police disabled the stolen cruiser, causing it to roll over. Leeth reportedly refused to comply with commands and was fatally shot at the scene. The Ohio trooper sustained minor injuries. The involved officers have been placed on administrative leave pending investigation, as per standard procedure.👮‍♀️🚔🚨

Around 7 p.m. on Monday evening, a road rage shooting occurred at the intersection of 42nd Street and Girard Avenue in the Parkside section of Philadelphia. A 15-year-old boy and a 20-year-old woman were injured and are currently hospitalized in stable condition.

Philadelphia police are searching for the suspect, described as a bearded man driving a silver Honda Civic. The vehicle has visible damage to both front quarter panels, is missing the front passenger-side hubcap, and has a white vanity license plate on the front bumper.

This incident was part of a larger outbreak of gun violence across the city that night, with five separate shootings injuring a total of seven people. Two of the victims remain in critical condition, but all survived.

Despite this surge, Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore emphasized that overall crime trends in Philadelphia are improving. According to recent data:

Shootings are down 32% compared to last year

However, Abdul-Kareem Al-Salafi from the Philadelphia Anti-Drug Anti-Violence Network voiced concern over the increasing number of teenagers involved as both victims and suspects in violent crimes.
