Axel Pons and inner peace
At 35, Axel Pons is unrecognizable. The former
MotoGP rider has left behind speed, circuits and
competitions to embrace a completely different
life, made of silence, spirituality and long walks.
Today he is in Pakistan, where some videos
show him with dreadlocks, long beard and
simple clothes, while he walks barefoot next to
a girl he met during the trip.
The turning point came between the end of
2022 and the beginning of 2023, when a
deep existential crisis radically changed his
way of seeing the world. First his retirement
to a monastery with a vow of silence, then his
experience in a Buddhist temple: fundamental
stages of an inner journey that led him to a
complex decision leave Barcelona on foot
with the aim of reaching India.
From that moment on, Axel chose to live
without means of transportation, traveling
only by walking and taking with him the
essentials. He sleeps wherever he happens,
meditates every morning at dawn and crosses
countries and borders guided by a deep search
for meaning. A journey that took him from
the Balkans to Turkey, and then further and
further east, amid difficulties and significant
encounters.
Today his path is temporarily stopped in the
north of Pakistan, waiting for the reopening
of the border with India, suspended due to
political tensions Despite the flu, Axel
remains faithful to his choice: no planes, no
shortcuts. Just steps, patience and awareness.
His family supports him, and his father has
confirmed that Axel is serene and at peace with
himself. A radical transformation that tells how,
sometimes, the longest journey is not the one
between two places, but the one within us.
