“You were not expected to aspire to excellence: you were expected to make peace with mediocrity.” -James Baldwin

Baldwin left us a roadmap. He presented the harsh realities of being Black in America while leaving instructions on how to navigate the weight of it all. When it feels especially heavy I encourage you to visit his work…his words and insights are timeless.

Since we’re talking about The Weight of Blood let’s discuss how phenomenal everything Tiffany D. Jackson writes is. Her work is so impactful b/c she takes reality and expertly intertwines it with fiction. Hands down my favorite YA author.
