None of us run successful businesses alone.

When I first started CONSCIOUSXCHANGE, all I wanted was to find more entrepreneurs who looked like me.

I often found myself in overwhelming white spaces and was often the only person of color, the only daughter of immigrants, the only equity focused coach and consultant in the room… and frankly, after too many conversations explaining what Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is, being the only in these spaces annoyed the s**t out of me.

I deeply wanted to be surrounded by other entrepreneurs of color, as my mentors and coaches, my collaborators and friends, my teammate and colleagues. I wanted to be around people who shared similar values and experiences and missions working towards equity and abundance in a racialized and toxic capitalisitic world.

So in true Carissa fashion, when you don’t find what you’re looking for, you build it yourself.

And that’s what we’re doing here at CONSCIOUSXCHANGE, starting with our team.

Before I embraced a connection-centered approach, my reliance on rigid sales scripts held me back.

I was so fixated on following my script that I often overlooked the genuine needs of those I wished to serve.

Recently, I embraced a new adventure—rappelling 🧗🏽‍♀️

Picture this: standing at the cliff's edge, intentionally stepping into the unknown. It's a lot like sales, isn't it?

The fear of sales can be daunting. We'll create and share social media posts, wondering why it's crickets, all while avoiding the crucial outreach. Just as I initially stood on that mountain's edge, hesitating, people hesitate with sales.

But here's the thing, just as in rock climbing, sales require trust. I had a guide, meticulously setting everything up. I listened, and what seemed scary turned out to be incredibly exhilarating. As I descended down that cliff, I realized it wasn't that bad—actually, it was quite fun.

Yet, it all starts with a purposeful goal. My aim is to conquer canyoneering and rappel down canyons as high as 200 feet. But I have to start with the 60 and 80-footers, practicing to achieve the bigger goals.

Sales, like rock climbing, can be intimidating at first. But with a goal to make a difference in the world, stepping into the scary unknown becomes essential. It's about taking those leaps, facing the fears, and realizing that the journey, though challenging, is incredibly rewarding.
