As part of the Japan House Los Angeles ongoing celebration of ramen, don’t miss a special edition of “Movie & Bites” featuring a hit TV drama, cooking demonstration, and tasting!

The love of ramen has been absorbed fully into Japanese pop culture, as explored in countless films, TV series, documentaries, comics, and more. The latest Japanese TV series driven by this passion is “Goddess of the Line: Journey to the Ultimate Ramen!” (Gyoretsu no Megami - Ramen Saiyūki), also based on a popular manga, which tells the story of a successful female ramen shop owner who never stops striving for ramen perfection.

After a screening of the delightful episode, special guest Nobuaki Ishiai will showcase his own ramen artistry in a demonstration with recipes and tips you can use in your own kitchen, followed by a delicious ramen tasting, both featuring classic toppings like seasoned eggs (ajitama) and braised pork chashū.

Guests will receive take-home ramen kits to try on their own.

If you are in Southern California, the weather is perfect for taking your date into the wild this weekend!

National Park Service rangers will lead hikes in the Santa Monica Mountains on April 29 through May 1 as part of the City Nature Challenge, a community initiative to encourage citizen science through a mass submission of nature, plant, and wildlife photos.

Friday's hike begins at Paramount Ranch at 1:30 p.m., with four other times and locations scheduled over the weekend (two Saturday, two Sunday). Free to attend.

This Saturday, the annual Blessing of the Animals on Olvera Street in Los Angeles is back with an in-person for the first time since the pandemic struck. Archbishop Jose Gomez will offer a blessing from 2-3 PM, and entertainment runs from noon to 4 PM.
