For those who are curious: Oberkochen (Zeiss) Opton 50mm T1.3 PL-mount lens

This is a Jupiter-9 85mm f/2 for the Kiev-15 camera.
Made by Arsenal in Ukraine.
Originally, the aperture could only be controlled from inside the camera.
I added an external aperture control lever.
The mount was converted to Leica L39

I came up with a way to turn a standard Helios 44-2 into a lens that produces Petzval-style bokeh. Several of these lenses have already gone to their new owners.

The version with a working aperture is quite complicated to build and requires two donor Helios 44-2 lenses for parts. However, the apertureless version can be made in a home workshop.

I’m considering recording a tutorial showing exactly how it’s done. To make that happen, I need a few more paid subscribers on my Patreon. The monthly subscription is very affordable — just $10.

As soon as my Patreon reaches at least 10 paid subscribers, I’ll start working on this video tutorial.

Each of these Petzval-style Helios lenses costs me not only a huge amount of time, but also a significant portion of my nervous system :). If it didn’t produce such beautiful images, there’s no way I’d be able to endure all this suffering

So, to summarize what I changed in this lens to make it usable on SLR cameras.

First of all, the fl**ge distance was increased from 28.8mm to 45.5mm. The mount thread is now M42 instead of M39. The minimum focusing distance has been reduced from 1 meter to 0.5 meters. The optical block is now rigidly fixed inside the focusing helicoid, so there is no need to extend it before shooting.

The lens is already listed for sale. I plan to build one or two more while parts are available, and after that they will be made only upon request.

I think this turned out to be a pretty successful project

This is a FED lens (Industar-10) that I converted from a rangefinder lens into an SLR lens with an M42 mount. While I was at it, I also improved the minimum focusing distance from 1 meter to 0.5 meters. Anyone interested in one like this?
