is the most recent film I had the opportunity to design — about a teen learning to love her body through a journey of self discovery, friendship and fashion design. Over the next few posts, I’ll take you BTS to what went into designing this important story.
Starting with the end — Lenore’s fashion show dress — one of my favorites.
EW Trivia: Lenore’s wearable fashion designs throughout the film were designed and made by Ashley Nell Tipton EXCEPT:
1. The designs in Lenore’s closet
2. Lenore’s fashion show dress
I designed Lenore’s fashion show dress with my costume team ACD and Tailor .ekoh. From a storytelling and costume design POV — the dress is the perfect juxtaposition to Lenore’s head-to-toe black outfits that cover up her entire body in the rest of the film and represents Lenore’s growth toward loving herself and accepting her body. I think it’s the show stopper specifically because it’s an accessible and flattering design plus was comfortable and confident wearing it — they look amazing in it and that shines through on screen, don’tcha think?
