For Dignity Institute Puerto Rico (DIPR), our learning experience will speak directly to the violence of colonization and slavery and our service learning will be grounded in the specific past and present colonization of Puerto Rico. The Embodied Learning track of DIPR will be an intimate space for deep, healing-centered, trauma-informed learning that centers the experience of racialized people, specifically those of the African diaspora. Watch/listen to Nicole Seahorne Hameen, one of our Embodied Learning participants, share their understanding of generational, land-based trauma, which beautifully captures the intention for this track.

We are less than three weeks from Unurbanist Assembly! Before we share more about who's participating this year, we wanted to share the meaning behind our theme of "Decarceration as spatial reparations" Decarceration is a response to the system of mass incarceration in the U.S. and it aims to eliminate incarcerations through effective, sustainable, and socially just policies.

Spatial reparations is about replacing all carceral processes and institutions with healthy and just interventions, land back, atonement for racist land-use practices, and slavery reparations.
