4 Tips for Creating Compliant Facebook™ Ads -

Getting your ad account shut down can be detrimental to your success as a business online. Follow these tips to be sure your ads are in compliance:

1) Integrity & authenticity matters - Stay away from using any verbiage that can seem remotely manipulative or unrealistic.

2) Avoid running ads to sensitive categories or topics: Such as MLM-type products, dating/romance, get-rich-quick offers, unrealistic stories/expectations (some of these can be used if carefully worded).

3) Steer clear of personal 'condition-specific' ads: Such as anxiety, chronic pain, diabetes, weight loss, etc.

4) Restricted categories: Advertising anything related to drugs/drug usage, (including CBD/Hemp), smoking/vaping, illicit products/services, etc. is prohibited.

BONUS Tip! Resist the urge to use the word 'you' too much in your ad copy. Aim for a more generalized, less-direct approach in your copy that doesn't call people out or make your ad too personal.

As long as you respect FB's rules you won't have to worry about losing the ability to run ads on their platform. And often, in many cases, you can carefully navigate around them.

This ad started with a great and compelling first sentence that could definitely drum up some curiosity.

But because I am a cold audience to this advertiser, this sentence alone is just not quite enough to make me curious to want to click to See More.

Now, I think the headline is really strong. It’s to the point and very clear.

However, there is a little bit of real estate they are missing out on using here too. They could have taken a little extra time to fill in a few more words that might be more descriptive about what they're offering.

🚨 "It happens all the time: hackers take control of Facebook accounts and their rightful owners can’t log in to get them back.

To keep this from happening to you, take a minute to set up a little known Facebook feature called Trusted Contacts to protect you."

It works by pre-selecting three to five friends. Then, if you ever get locked out of your account because a hacker takes over and changes your password, Facebook will send those friends a special code.

You can then contact these friends in real life to get the code and enter it into a recovery link.

Facebook knows you are the rightful owner of the account and hands you back control.

Take a minute to set up a little known Facebook feature called Trusted Contacts to protect yourself from hackers.

🙇‍♀️ “Explain it to me like I’m 5.” When it comes to composing effective Facebook Ads, it’s SO important to be sure your message is crystal clear.

Fully explain exactly what your product/service/offer is, who it’s for and what it does in the simplest way possible so it is easily understood by your ideal target audience.

You only have 3-5 seconds to catch someone’s attention in the feed - so you don’t want people to work too hard to figure out what it is that you’re selling.

Remember…a confused mind says “NO”.

Not taking advantage of every micro-opportunity to clearly and quickly communicate your marketing message in an ad is simply throwing money to the wind because you’re not fully maximizing each and every ad dollar you spend.

🎬 Did you know that when uploading a video to the Facebook Ads Manager, there are some hidden settings automatically turned on that can impact your ad's performance? 🤔 For instance, Facebook might automatically change your video to a completely different size ratio, but it doesn't always work like magic... Typically, I prefer sticking to the original ratio for my videos unless there's a good reason to change them. But then, I like to be the one that changes them - I don't always want Facebook taking the reins! 😉 Have you ever had Facebook automatically change your uploaded videos inside the Ads Manager? Let me know in the comments! 👇

This screenshot was taken from my computer so you can see that there's a lot more of the ad description that appears above the photo than on mobile.

That’s why my rule of thumb is to always build an ad for the smallest device because the majority of the people are looking at social media on their mobile devices, and I want to make sure that everything that's most important in an ad shows to the most number of people.

Also, putting a price on your graphic can sometimes be a repellent to a cold audience. It immediately sends a message that what you’re seeing is an ad, something is being sold, which potentially could make someone want to scroll right past it.
