Love being reminded of eloquent words.

Metacognition
(MET-ta-cog-NISH-un)
Noun
-The process of thinking about how we think and make meaning.
-Awareness or analysis of one's own learning or thinking processes.
From “meta-“ a word-forming element meaning - higher, beyond - from Greek "meta" - in the midst of, in common with, by means of, in pursuit or quest of -
+
cognition - from Latin "cognitionem" (nominative cognitio) - a getting to know, acquaintance, knowledge- noun of action from past participle stem of “cognoscere".

Used in a sentence:
“My own efforts towards metacognition have aided me tremendously during finals.”

Metacognition refers to higher order thinking which involves active control over the cognitive processes engaged in learning. Activities such as planning how to approach a given learning task, monitoring comprehension, and evaluating progress toward the completion of a task are metacognitive in nature.
