I got to see something yesterday that was deeply affecting to me: a room full of well-loved, worn copies of The Congruent Leader. 🥹

Over the past five months, a group of leaders from the City of Frisco has been reading the book together. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to join them for a live Q&A and hear about their experience. How cool is that?!

For real, one of my favorite parts was seeing their books! I'm so used to seeing crisp and shiny new copies when they arrive in the mail or when someone picks one up at a conference bookstore. But these books had clearly been read, carried around, highlighted, and revisited. And I can't tell you how special that was to see. 📚

What meant even more was hearing how they'd taken the ideas beyond the pages of the book.

They'd been using the companion resources, including the Leadership Eulogy exercise, which asks you to think about how you want to be remembered as a leader. Several shared just how challenging that exercise had been (in the best possible way!), and hearing that was so affirming, because that was my intention when I created it. 💯

When I wrote this book, my hope was that it would encourage people to slow down, reflect, and have meaningful conversations about the way they lead. Getting to see that happen in a room full of people five months into their journey was such a gift.

For National Boss’s Day, I’ve been thinking about the bosses we remember long after we stop working for them.

And usually, it’s not because of some huge leadership moment.

It might be the manager who trusted you with an opportunity before you were completely confident you were ready. The one who took the time to give you thoughtful feedback. The one who noticed when you were having a hard week. Or the one who simply made you feel like your work mattered.

Those moments can seem small at the time, but they have a way of sticking with us—and sometimes shaping the kind of leader we eventually become.

So instead of sharing another list of what makes a “great boss” today, I want to hear about yours:

One year of The Congruent Leader and so many meaningful conversations with leaders along the way!

Yesterday, I had the incredible honor of being inducted into The HRSouthwest Conference Speaker Hall of Fame, and I'm honestly struggling to find the words to express how much this means to me.

Speaking has become one of the greatest joys of my career. I genuinely love getting to connect with people who care about making their workplaces better, share some of what I've learned along the way, and hopefully send them home with a few ideas they can actually put into practice.

And to be recognized for doing something I love so much? Well, that's pretty special.

I'm incredibly grateful to the HRSouthwest team for this honor and to every organization, conference, and person who has trusted me with the opportunity to share my message.

There are so many people who have encouraged and supported me along the way, and I certainly wouldn't be here without them.

What a day. One I won't soon forget! ❤️

The Congruent Leader turns ONE next week. 🥹📚

It's hard to believe it's already been almost a year since this book officially made its way into the world.

And what a year it's been.

I've gotten to talk about these ideas from stages, sign books for the first time, hear from readers who saw themselves (or maybe a few of their blind spots 😅) in the pages, and even work through the book alongside teams who wanted to apply the concepts together.

There have been so many little moments over the past year that I never really knew to expect when I was writing it.

The official anniversary is October 7, and I've got a few fun things planned to celebrate. 🎉

But for now, I'm just feeling really grateful for everyone who has read it, shared it, recommended it, or started a conversation because of something they found inside. ❤️

One of my favorite things to see after a CliftonStrengths workshop is a team finding ways to keep the conversation going long after our time together. It pumps me up big-time!

I’ve loved working with the team at Redeemer Church over the years, and they’ve done such a great job of this. Rather than treating CliftonStrengths as a one-time workshop, they’ve been intentional about keeping their strengths visible and top of mind—including adding each team member’s Top 5 to the nameplates outside their offices.

How cool is that?!

It’s a simple thing, but I love what it communicates: understanding the best of one another isn’t just something to talk about for a few hours in a workshop. It can become part of how a team works together every day.

That’s where I think CliftonStrengths delivers real value—when teams keep using the language, notice what one another does well, and return to those conversations over time.

Such a fun example of in action! 💙
