Behind the scenes, I intended to take the day off, but I’m kinda working and kinda relaxing in an entrepreneurial way, if that makes sense.

I’ve learned that doing meaningful work requires knowing who I am, protecting my energy, and not overperforming just to meet other people’s expectations.

I’m in a great space, enjoying the work, the growth, and the relationships that continue to flow organically. I’ve also learned as years move forward, that I do my best work when I’m not forcing, people pleasing, or shrinking.

The business keeps growing, but so does the person behind it. Slow and steady!

I was on the plane when a client I’ve worked with for the past year reached out regarding continuing consulting services. Then last night the VP sent another message confirming they were ready to move forward for year two.

Here’s what I know: What’s for you cannot be taken away. Divine timing and quality services go hand in hand. GO THE EXTRA MILE!

Another year, another opportunity to be of service. Looking forward to year two.

Grateful to see part of 2027 already taking shape.

People watching is fun and rewarding because you get a small glimpse into someone’s reality. One person buys coffee before work, another drinks a tall beer and smokes a cigarette, a mother yells at her kids for asking for too much, and a very beautiful woman walks by in a pencil skirt, allowing her perfume to linger long after my “good morning” has faded.

Meanwhile, everyone walks around and over the unhoused person who has checked out of reality.

That’s everyday social observation and analysis in action. Happy Monday, Bushwick, Brooklyn! Time to meet my new group! Let’s gooooo! Vroommmmm!

Shifting gears out of the work attire and onto the next assignment: cooking/eating on the go and THE GYM!

Working on this wonderful day and enjoying every moment, while recognizing a simple reality: some potential clients want access to my quality services without making the full financial commitment that comes with contracting with me directly. This is definitely a first!

Instead, this potential client chose to access my services indirectly by contracting through one of my existing clients, who also happens to be their client. That allows them to avoid paying my full current direct rate while I continue being paid at my existing contracted rate.

What is interesting is that they likely would have been in a much better position to negotiate a reasonable direct rate with me than they are with the route they chose, especially since my current fees were apparently too high for them.

Either way, I still maintain control over how and whether my services are provided, and their employees do not have full access to all of the perks and organizational support I offer my direct clients.

And the part that really sucks for them? Many of the additional services they truly need are not available through my other client relationship. Trying to work around a direct agreement does not automatically create greater access, flexibility, or leverage.

You cannot pull a fast one on someone who knows how to strategically navigate difficult leadership and complicated business relationships.
Welp, that’s my share for today! I may have lost the opportunity for a major contract and nearly $40K in potential profit, but I also gained the opportunity to avoid working directly with an avoidant CEO and VP. Sometimes what looks like a loss is just clarity about who you do and do not want to do business with.

Be good to yourselves and good to others.Quality over quantity. Quality costs $$$$! Next time Long Island! Let’s gooooo Vroommmmm 💨

🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈Well done! I successfully completed my focus group today. I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this important work supporting LGBTQIA+ youth and individuals with developmental disabilities in residential and congregate care settings.

It was rewarding to see the preparation, collaboration, and purpose behind this work come together in such a meaningful way. I’m proud to be part of a process focused on creating more compassionate, affirming, and responsive environments for those who are among the most vulnerable in our communities.

2024 Throwback: It was a rough night, but I made it through.

Them: “Simply, you freely give away information. Don’t tell them everything.”

Me: “Why would I withhold knowledge that could help someone along their path?”

Don’t hold on to constructive information. Share it! Constructive information creates power and develops more leaders.

Be someone’s hero, even if only for a moment. Remember how it felt when no one shared the information you needed, leaving you to go in circles or remain dependent on them? Don’t be that person.

Helping someone grow is a leadership flex.
