Today, I showed up with clarity and today, imposter syndrome showed up too. No shame in my leadership truth.

✅️I felt it!
✅️I named it!
✅️I kept showing up anyway!

In my role as a LGBTQIA+ Consultant, Trauma-Informed Care Specialist, Youth Experience Advocate, and Staff Practice Translator, I sometimes sit beside experts whose knowledge and experience differ from my own in multiple ways.

Do not be afraid to acknowledge the theories and frameworks you are still learning or just began to study. Remind yourself why you were chosen to stand beside other experts with the same purpose and passion. This reminder helped me keep my confidence and expertise aligned with my assignment.

At the end of the day, there are different roles
One commitment: Dignity! Belonging! Safety! Empowerment ! Always focusing on supporting children and youth in foster care and residential homes.

This is more than work!
This is purpose!
This is Pride in action!

Having an LGBTQIA+ non-discrimination policy is not enough.

You need a team that understands the psychological impact of being rejected, dismissed, misgendered, excluded, or treated as unsafe because of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

Inclusion is not just a statement on paper. It is trauma-informed practice, cultural humility, emotional safety, and accountability in every interaction.

By the time some employees arrive at a new organization where wellness and self-care truly matter, they are often afraid to open up. They may struggle to believe that compassionate leadership can exist without an ulterior motive.

That fear does not come from nowhere.

Many have been bullied, harassed, gaslit, and disrespected by the very leaders hired to develop them.

My client and I operate from a trauma-informed framework where we value the wellness of each employee. It starts with removing the labels and leading from the heart.

I watched the CEO of this company pay in full for a new employee’s car after it was towed for not being insured while she was on her way to my development session.

New York State Troopers drove the employee to the session after learning she had not had work in months. When she arrived, she was in tears.

After a side conversation, the CEO asked where the car was, agreed to pay the bill in full, and gave the staff member additional money before telling her:

“You are safe here. We are family. I am taking care of you because I need you to take care of the work I hired you to do.”

I knew then that we both understood the service work at play in our leadership roles. That was 2.5 years ago and we continue to build a HR/ Training Department focused on compliance while supporting employee wellness.

This is what trauma-informed leadership looks like in real time.

A leader can’t claim to have an “open door policy” if employees don’t actually have real access, safety, follow-through, or a fair chance to be heard.

Truth is hard to chew, but tough conversations are necessary when leadership, culture, and accountability are on the line.

Here’s where I’ll be until gym time.

Nestled on the floor in my makeshift reading and minimal-work station.

Nothing too demanding today. Just a little reading, meditation, and enough structure to keep my spirit moving.

Leadership rooted in growth does not require permission, applause, or approval from others.

Don’t know who needs to know this, but you deserve to live without fear, and you make the world brighter each time you show your shine.

Frontline inspiration matters!

Some human resources departments and supervisors don’t do a fine job orienting employees to their organizations or the positions they are taking on. The employee handbook isn’t enough to lead growth.

Employees should understand expectations and fully understand how they can evolve within the organization. I like to start my engagements with new employees with an empowerment talk and offer a toolbox of nuggets for them to carry over the course of their work endeavors.

I may never see some of the employees I meet again, but I make sure to leave a lasting impact. After setting up for this session and getting myself together, I opened with these words:

Denied does not mean defeated. No matter what happens on your way up, another door will always open for you. You all regardless of title or degree, have the ability to push onward and upward.
