What an amazing Memorial Day Breakfast and Parade 🇺🇸🚒

Thank you to everyone who volunteered, helped set up, cooked, cleaned, and made yesterday such a great day. We are so grateful for everyone who came through, supported us, and enjoyed breakfast with the community.

A special thank you to Jones Dairy Farm for donating the sausage, Cash & Olives for the eggs, and Piggly Wiggly for generously taking $100 off our bill. We also want to thank Dane County Dumpster for providing us a dumpster for the weekend.

🌷 Happy Mother’s Day 🌷
This Mother’s Day, the Cambridge Fire Department would like to recognize and celebrate all the mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures in our community—especially those who support our firefighters and EMS providers behind the scenes.
Whether you’re responding to calls, holding things together at home, or cheering from the sidelines, your strength, patience, and love do not go unnoticed. We’re grateful for everything you do, today and every day.
Wishing all moms a safe, happy, and well‑deserved Mother’s Day. 💐🚒

This past weekend, the Cambridge Fire Department was represented at a two-day firefighting conference in Watertown that brought together instructors and fire service professionals from across the country.
Members of our department continue to take time away from their families, jobs, and personal commitments to train, learn, and bring back new strategies to Cambridge. Opportunities like this help strengthen our department and ensure we continue to grow, adapt, and serve our community at the highest level.
We’re proud of the commitment shown toward ongoing education and professional development. That dedication benefits our entire department—and, most importantly, the community we protect. 🚒🔥

We would like to thank Watertown Fire Department for hosting this event.

Happy International Firefighters’ Day ❤️🚒

Today we take a moment to recognize and thank the men and women who serve our community with courage, compassion, and commitment.

At the Cambridge Fire Department, our firefighters aren’t just responders… they’re your neighbors, friends, and family members—and they proudly serve as volunteers. They show up at all hours, leaving their homes, jobs, and families behind, ready to help when it matters most.

We are incredibly grateful for each and every one of our members and the sacrifices they make to keep our community safe. We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the neighboring fire departments who stand beside us—always ready to support, just as we are for them.

Please join us in saying thank you to all firefighters, near and far, today and every day. ❤️

Gov. Evers Orders Flags to be Flown at Half-Staff on Sunday in Honor of Wisconsin Firefighters Who Have Given Their Lives in the Line of Duty

MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers signed Executive Order #290 ordering the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff on Sun., May 3, 2026, as a mark of respect for the state’s firefighters who have given their lives in the line of duty in honor of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service. Gov. Evers also proclaimed May 2-3, 2026, as National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend.

“Our firefighters run toward danger, putting their health, safety, and life at risk to serve our neighbors during what is often their darkest hour of need. For that, we owe them an incredible debt of gratitude,” said Gov. Evers. “On behalf of the grateful people of Wisconsin, we acknowledge and thank our firefighters and their families for their service and sacrifices, and we pay tribute to all those who have lost their lives in the line of duty in service and the loved ones who miss and mourn them every day. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten.”

Additionally, on Sat., Sept. 26, 2026, the Wisconsin Fire & EMS Memorial in Wisconsin Rapids will hold the Final Alarm Ceremony honoring the memory of members of Wisconsin’s fire services who have given their lives in the line of duty. Executive Order #290 also orders the flags to be flown at half-staff on Sat., Sept. 26, 2026, in honor of that occasion.

Finally, Wisconsin state law, Wis. Stat. 995.225(1), designates the week of October 9th as Fire Prevention Week and the Saturday at the end of Fire Prevention Week as Wisconsin Firefighters Memorial Day annually. To that end, Executive Order #290 also orders the flags be lowered on Sat., Oct. 10, 2026, in honor of Wisconsin Firefighters Memorial Day during Fire Prevention Week.

Executive Order #290 will be in effect from sunrise to sunset on Sun., May 3, 2026, Sat., Sept. 26, 2026, and Sat., Oct. 10, 2026.

🚒 Grant Writing = Smart Use of Community Resources 🚒

This spring, the Cambridge Fire Department applied for 10 different grants to help support our operations and improve firefighter safety.
We’re excited to share that we recently received a $3,000 SAFER grant, which will be used to purchase new fire gear for our members. Fire gear must be replaced approximately every 10 years to ensure it continues to provide proper protection. Additional grants we’re pursuing would help us replace our outdated handheld radios, improving communication and safety on emergency scenes.
Grant applications require a significant investment of time and effort, but the payoff is worth it—every dollar we secure through grants is money saved for our community, while ensuring our firefighters have the equipment they need to serve safely and effectively.

Thank you for your continued support of the Cambridge Volunteer Fire Department. Proudly serving the area since 1902.

We are a 100% volunteer fire department, which means that our firefighters respond from home, work, or where ever they may be when an incident occurs.  Members are issued pagers which alert them to when they need to respond.  We currently average 30-35 active members of the department, which are...

Cambridge Fire responded to a brush fire in the marsh today. Thanks to a quick response from our crews, the fire was contained before it could spread and turn into a much larger incident.

With the dry conditions we’ve been experiencing, it doesn’t take much for a small spark to become a fast-moving fire. Please be mindful when burning, properly dispose of smoking materials, and avoid any activities that could unintentionally start a fire.

We appreciate Deerfield Volunteer Fire Department coming to help.

🚒 Cambridge VFD Annual Call Report 🚒

As you will see, your CVFD saw a fairly significant decease in call volume in 2025 over prior years, decreasing from 198 in 2024 to 138 in 2025. The last time your CVFD experienced this call volume was in 2014. This is primarily due to no longer serving the Town of Oakland, which is now served by several other departments, depending on location.

You'll see that call volume for our currently served municipalities has remained steady with only slight changes noted over the course of the previous 5 years. The Town of Christiana snuck by the Village of Cambridge for top call area. These two go back and forth being in the lead, with Christiana being number one 4 out of the last 5 years.

All call types show a mild decrease, with only mutual aid requests increasing from 31 in 2024 to 36 in 2025, and taking the top dispatch reason for 2025. Note that the vast majority mutual aid requests are for structure fires, where we sent an engine, a tender, or at times, both. This also includes times we are called to stand by at a neighboring fire department as a "change of quarters." Aside from mutual aid, the top call types were motor vehicle accident, EMS assist, and fire alarm sounding. These four call types are almost always found in the top categories for call types each year.

Thank you to our community for allowing us to serve you for these past 123 years!
