WHERE IS YOUR BETTER PLACE?

Life is a journey, and the days are short. Make the most of your life and work. Know where you want to go, what you want to accomplish, and who you want to be. Then, move toward that destination. Even the smallest steps today move you closer to a better place tomorrow.

Where is that better place for you?

Is it the place where your relationships are meaningful, your quality of life is robust, and your self-confidence is at an all-time high?

Is it the place where you do what you love every day, that place where your leadership matters, you add value for your customers and your team, or you build an exciting career path for yourself?

Is it the place where you learn more about yourself and others, where you grow your strengths to become the person you always wanted to be?

Is it the place where you explore solutions to nagging problems, think through tough decisions, or improve your organization’s performance?

Is it the place where you take charge of your destiny, take control of your emotions, or make change in your community?

Is it the place where you dream more, innovate more, create more, challenge the status quo more, and fight for what’s right more?

When you find your better place, then the world becomes a better place. Coaching conversations can set you on the path to your better place.

February 5th marked the 100th birthday of the late Dr. Donald O. Clifton.

A native Nebraskan, Don Clifton studied, taught, and researched educational psychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Dr. Clifton specifically studied talent and the specific traits that contributed to talented people being successful.

Upon leaving academia in 1969, Dr. Clifton began his own research firm, Selection Research Inc. (SRI) to help organizations recruit and select talent. In 1988, thanks to SRI's incredible success, Clifton's company purchased the renowned public polling firm Gallup. He expanded Gallup's services to help individuals and organizations maximize their talent for greatest success.

One question always bugged Don Clifton. Why do we always focus on what is wrong with people instead of what is right? Why do we spend so much time trying to improve our weaknesses instead of focusing on our talents? Through his research, he became convinced that long-term success was more likely by discovering a person's natural talents and growing them into powerful strengths.

In 1999, Dr. Clifton created the StrengthsFinder assessment to help individuals discover their talents. To date, 33 million people globally have taken the CliftonStrengths assessment to find their strengths among 34 common talent themes. Gallup's ongoing research correlates knowing and utilizing your strengths directly to improved wellbeing and increased happiness, as well as to better employee engagement, job loyalty, and productivity in the workplace.

Shortly before his death in 2003, the American Psychological Association named Dr. Donald Clifton "the father of strengths-based psychology and the grandfather of positive psychology." Today, I am proud to be a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach to help individuals discover their top talents and put them to greatest use for a satisfying life!
