Ever feel like you're playing a game at work, but no one ever told you the rules?
You’re not alone.
I've been getting a lot of questions about navigating tricky workplace dynamics, and the #1 source of frustration boils down to a single, powerful feeling: "I don't know what my boss expects of me."
This creates a vicious cycle:
➡️ The employee feels anxious, guessing what to do and fearing they'll get it wrong.
➡️ The boss feels frustrated, thinking, "Why aren't they getting it? Am I the only one who can do this right?"
Leaders, let's pause here. *cue Taylor Swift 🎶 It’s me! Hi 👋🏼 I’m the problem it’s me!* If your team seems disengaged or isn't delivering, it might not be a performance issue. It might be a clarity issue.
Vague directions lead to vague results. If you want your team to read your mind, you’ll all end up with a headache. But if you provide crystal-clear goals and expectations, you give them a roadmap to succeed.
So, what's your take?
Leaders: What's your best trick for making expectations clear?
Employees: What’s the most helpful way a boss has ever given you direction?
