1. โฌ†๏ธ your price. I would say that the majority of memberships I run into are under-priced. Increasing your price not only means more revenue, but it will often mean a higher calibre of member.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
2. โฌ†๏ธ your volume of members. This is where it gets a little bit trickier. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Most membership strategists will point you in the direction of how to attract new members. Content, Facebook Ads, affiliates - you name it, and they'll suggest it. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
But there's an unsung opportunity when it comes to increasing your volume of members - and that's decreasing your volume of cancellations. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
The nature of a membership is that every month, you'll have people joining, and you'll have people cancelling. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
So let's say you attract 50 new members a month - that sounds pretty impressive, right? โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Focusing on this number seems like an easy fix. But let's dig deeper. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Let's say that you have 40 existing members cancelling every month. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
That brings your net growth to 10 members a month. Not as impressive ๐Ÿ˜ฑ โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
You could decide to focus on attracting even more members *OR* you could focus on reducing the volume of members cancelling every month.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €

We took the 5AM train to my parents' in the countryside, expecting to hide out for a week or two.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
That was 11 months ago.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Our plans of moving from England to America had been in the making for years.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
But now they were on ice again.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Especially considering what was going on Miami (AKA where we wanted to move to. AKA the city of YOLO when it comes to C).โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
So we were living at my parents because the last place we wanted to be in lockdown was in our tiny zone one flat.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
And so "one more month," became another month of "just one more month."โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
All was well. But it was exhausting. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
This feeling of never knowing when life would be taken off of hold (I think everyone felt varying degrees of this!).โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Until one day my husband and I were on our daily walk.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
"What if we just said, "f**k it," and moved to America?" I asked.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
He didn't have a job lined up. My business was still a baby. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
But we had savings, and a "what's meant to be will be" attitude.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €

There's never a "perfect" time to do anything. Whether it's joining the gym, or moving country, or investing in yourself to take your business to the next level.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
But progress always beats perfection.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Instead of looking at all the options laid out in front of you with analysis paralysis, make a choice. It's only once we take the step that we can understand whether the step was the right one (or not!).โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €

[EXPOSED DAY 17] Here's why your members are cancelling - let me know if this sounds familiar!โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
You launched your membership with a clear idea of what you wanted to help your members with.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
But over the past few months and years, you've been adding things - largely because your members asked for new features.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Before you know it, what started out as a sweet, manageable membership has turned into a tidal wave that comes crashing down on you every single week. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
It's exhausting.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
But you want to do the best for your members, so you crack on.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Except, even though your members said they wanted more from you - that's not really what they wanted. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
I know, I know. It's counterintuitive. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
But they're overwhelmed and now they're not engaging - at all.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
And so maybe one month goes by. Maybe two.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
And your members start to realise they're not using their membership. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
It must not be very good because they're not seeing the result they'd hoped from it.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Except, as previously stated, they're not using it. How can anyone complain that their car isn't effective as a means to get to a destination if they don't get in and turn on the ignition?).โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
And they cancel.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
And now you're doing a lot for your members. But they're cancelling.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Oh, and because you wanted to help as many people as possible your prices are looooow.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
So you're doing a lot, but not getting a lot in return.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Cue resentment. Cue frustration. For you and your members.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
The good news is that it doesn't have to be this way.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €

Today I want to talk a bit about the community element. I get asked all the time whether a paid Facebook Group is a good way to host your membership community. The truth is, thereโ€™s no โ€œperfect platformโ€ to host your community. Whether you use Facebook, or Mighty Networks, or your own WordPress plugin there are pros and cons.
