They’re often mentioned together, but they serve different purposes.

🔵 USDOT Number — identifies a carrier and is used by FMCSA to track safety information such as inspections, crashes, and compliance history.

🟢 MC Number — represents operating authority required for certain for-hire interstate operations.

And here’s the important part: having a USDOT Number doesn’t automatically mean you need an MC Number. Your requirements depend on how your business operates.
