Every office needs that person who can make the numbers line up…

At War Pony Consulting, that’s Timber Darnell — our Bookkeeper and affectionately known as “The Reconciler.” 😂

And let’s be real — she’s also Cassidy’s right-hand gal. 🙌

Timber is the one behind the scenes working through transactions, keeping client books organized, tackling reconciliations, and helping make sure everything lands where it belongs.

Give her a bank statement, a QuickBooks file, and a reconciliation that’s off by some ridiculous amount…

She’s going to find it. 🔎😂

But when she’s not chasing down pennies and making QuickBooks behave, you’ll probably find Timber out at the arena spending time with her family 🐴 or harvesting something from her garden. 🌱🥕 There’s a pretty good chance she’s just as happy with dirt on her boots as she is with a reconciliation at $0.00.

She’s dependable, hardworking, detail-oriented, and has become a HUGE part of keeping WPC and our clients moving in the right direction.

And around here, there’s just something satisfying about seeing that beautiful little:

🤠 MEET CASSIDY — AKA “THE TAX COLLECTOR” 💰🐴

If you’re new around here, hey! I’m Cassidy Honne, founder and owner of War Pony Consulting — affectionately known around the office as “The Tax Collector.” 😂

No, I don’t actually work for the IRS… but judging by how often I’m reminding somebody about sales tax, payroll taxes, franchise tax, or a filing deadline, you’d probably think I do. 🤣

A few things about me:

🐴 I’m a horse girl through and through — team roping is my happy place.

📚 I genuinely LOVE cleaning up messy books. Give me a QuickBooks file that makes absolutely no sense and suddenly I’m having a great time. 😂

💻 I started WPC because I wanted business owners to have someone in their corner who could help them understand their numbers without making everything feel overly complicated or intimidating.

🤠 I believe you can run a professional, successful business without losing who you are in the process.

😂 And yes… I WILL ask you what that random $847.36 charge from six months ago was.

WPC has grown into more than I ever imagined, and one of my favorite parts has been getting to work with other small-business owners who are out there building something of their own.

I’m a business owner, wife, mama, team roper, and the person who gets way too excited when a bank reconciliation hits $0.00. 🙌

So if you see an email from me around the 20th saying “Hey! Sales tax is due…”

Don’t shoot the messenger. 😂

🚨 BIG 1099 CHANGE FOR 2026! 🚨

Business owners, this is one you’ll want to know! 👀

Beginning with payments made in 2026, the federal reporting threshold for certain 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC payments increased from $600 to $2,000.

That means if your business pays an independent contractor $2,000 or more during 2026 for reportable services, you may be required to issue them a 1099-NEC.

💡 BUT — don’t throw out your W-9 process!

Even with the higher threshold, we still recommend collecting a W-9 BEFORE paying a new vendor or contractor. Don’t wait until January to start chasing down vendor information!

And remember: the 1099 threshold determines reporting requirements — it does NOT determine whether the income is taxable.

Why does having a second set of eyes matter?

If the same person who is paying bills, cutting checks, or handling the day-to-day money is also the person reconciling the accounts, there’s very little separation of duties. Even with the best intentions, errors, duplicate payments, missed transactions, or other discrepancies can easily get overlooked.

An independent reconciliation gives you another layer of accountability and helps make sure nothing gets swept under the rug.
