Last week, I traveled to California to record an episode with NBC Dateline. Working with Dateline correspondent Josh Mankiewicz and his team was a great experience they made the process easy, and I truly enjoyed our conversations. I’ve recorded many projects over the years, but this one felt different because I was interviewed not as the case investigator, but as an expert sharing my perspective on the crime scene.

The most meaningful part of this experience was having lunch with my wife, Tracie, and one of my mentors and colleagues the day before I left. He told me he was proud of everything I’ve accomplished and that I had stayed true to my passion for solving violent crimes. Earning that kind of respect from him means the world to me.

The episode is expected to air within the next month or so, and they’ll keep me updated.

While I was testifying in Utah, a female news reporter approached me and asked for my business card. Last week, I received an unexpected call from Burbank, California. Assuming it was spam, I let it go to voicemail. It turned out to be NBC Dateline inviting me to California to film an episode about the Restelli homicide. It looks like I will be traveling there within the next couple of weeks and will let everyone know when the episode is scheduled to air.

Congratulations to the Utah County Prosecutors Office and the American Fork Police Department on achieving a verdict of guilty on all charges in the Tracey Grist homicide trial. I was honored to serve as an expert witness, providing testimony on crime scene reconstruction and staging. Among the most memorable compliments I received were from a news reporter who watched my testimony in January. They referred to me as the prosecution's wringer, noting that I explained the case and its circumstances in simple, understandable language for the jury. My testimony was broadcast live on Court TV and is available on YouTube. A short clip is attached.

I thoroughly enjoyed teaching the Investigating Sexual Abuse in Confinement Settings course at the Monroe County Public Safety Center, which was graciously hosted by the Monroe County Correctional Facility. Staff participated from 12 nearby county jails and one NY State Agency. Many thanks to Warden Ruddy for hosting and to Lt. Viera for skillfully coordinating an outstanding training day.

Today I recorded the interview at the New York Post for a true crime documentary, set to be released next month. I appreciated the opportunity for my wife, Tracie, to participate in the experience. I'll share the link soon.

I will be teaching in Monroe County on Thursday and then traveling to Utah next Tuesday to provide expert testimony for the Utah County Prosecutors Office in the Tracey Grist homicide trial. The trial will be recorded for Court TV.
