If you had to pack up your house quickly after a disaster (fire, flood, etc) … do you have a list of those items already prepared?

I just went through this a few months ago when my basement flooded. having an inventory of my valuables made it easier for me to know what was damaged or gone to storage.

Recently, my elderly mother and aunts had to move to assisted living and we had to clear their condo of a lot of valuable antiques and artwork.

Thankfully I had documented the entire collection – the family got the documented list and highlighted their choices. Any items chosen more than once were negotiated and when it came time for each of us to remove our items, we knew what each was getting and what was left over.
