Dementia brings a lot of uncertainty. It also brings questions worth sitting with.

On June 12, we’re gathering with
of to explore identity, dignity, and what it means to remain you — beyond a diagnosis.

Using The Dementia Deck as our guide, we’ll slow down and reflect together on how we want to be cared for, how decisions get made, and how connection holds.

No fixing. No right answers. Conversation and uncovering.

Letting go of the idea of independence.

Letting go of expectations.

Letting go of the idea of who you have to be.

There are many moments in aging, illness and grief where letting go is a powerful act.

Have you experienced this moment? What did you let go of and what did that let in?

What a true delight to hear from Greg and Shasta Nelson about how they are choosing to live their lives with an Alzheimer’s diagnosis.

Many lessons in there for all of us: designing the life you want now, talking about shame, showing up with love.

Thank you to them, and others who brought their whole vulnerable selves to this discussion.

Guilt is one of caregiving’s constant companions; and a feeling that doesn’t get a lot of airtime.

We’re excited to welcome Jeanette Yates, author of From Guilt to Good Enough, who spent four decades caring for her mother.

Jeanette invites caregivers to get curious about guilt: where it lives, how it’s experienced, and whether the role of caregiver feels chosen or simply absorbed from what was expected.

I got out of bed
on two strong legs.
It might have been
otherwise. I ate
cereal, sweet
milk, ripe, flawless
peach. It might
have been otherwise.
I took the dog uphill
to the birch wood.
All morning I did
the work I love.
At noon I lay down
with my mate. It might
have been otherwise.
We ate dinner together
at a table with silver
candlesticks. It might
have been otherwise.
I slept in a bed
in a room with paintings
on the walls, and
planned another day
just like this day.
But one day, I know,
it will be otherwise.

An Alzheimer’s diagnosis is often met with fear, disorientation, and the heavy shadow of loss. But what else is possible?

Join us for an incredibly special webinar featuring “The Alzheimer’s Couple,” Greg and Shasta Nelson. They are opening up about their journey, navigating the terrain of Greg’s diagnosis with a radical commitment to love and presence.

As Greg puts it: “Learning to live slower, speak deeper, love louder for me and others care-partnering or experiencing Alzheimer’s.”

We know, we know. Learning the ins and outs of Medicare probably ranks somewhere between a dentist appointment and sitting in traffic.

But here’s the reality: It’s the system we have. Whether we like it or not, understanding how this program will—and will not—support us as we age or face serious illness is essential. It’s about knowing what tools you actually have in the shed before you need to build something.

If you aren’t ready to dive in just yet, no sweat. We’ll be right here waiting with this recording whenever the “Medicare mood” finally strikes.

Huge thanks to Chris Hashimoto, certified Medicare Counselor, for walking us through each plan, what they cover, and when to sign up for what. Chris is part of SHIP, an online resource for finding real, local medicare experts.
