CEO, YOL | Founder, Clinical Workforce Retention Initiative | Leadership, Wellbeing, and Team Performance
San Francisco Bay Area
This week in our series on the people behind YOL, meet David Parks.
David comes from a family of nurses and physicians. He built a business career first, senior leadership roles in the UK, then pivoted 25 years ago to leadership development and executive coaching. Since then: General Electric, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Salesforce, Stanford Medicine, Mayo Clinic.
The healthcare work is the most personally meaningful. In his words: "In a regular business, poor leadership creates friction, confusion, and underperformance, but nobody is going to die. In healthcare, the stakes are much higher."
At Mayo Clinic, David helped launch the Physician Well-Being Coaching Initiative. Results published in JAMA showed: a 22% overall reduction in burnout rates and a 29.3% overall reduction in the symptoms of emotional exhaustion.
Today he is Lead Coach for CWRI, Clinical Workforce Retention Initiative, YOL's program helping hospitals retain nurses by strengthening their managers.
Why he does it: "I can still hear the voice of my mother quietly saying, 'You have to care, David. You have to care.' That is what makes this work worth doing."
This is the depth on YOL's bench.
