Day 14–17 Chick Update 🐣✨

We’re officially in the final stretch and the transformation is incredible! During candling, you can now see just how much space the growing chick is taking up inside the egg. What was once translucent is now mostly dark, with only a small air cell visible at the top.

And the most exciting part… there’s movement! 🥹💛

Little jerks and shifts are signs of a strong, developing chick getting ready for hatch day.

At this stage:
• The embryo has developed most of its features
• Feathers are forming
• The chick is positioning itself for hatching
• Oxygen exchange is happening through the air cell

Nature never ceases to amaze me. We are witnessing life unfold in real time. This is such a powerful reminder of growth, patience, and divine timing.

Love working with my son. It’s always a vibe and the kids love him. We had a good time teaching about urban gardening, backyard chickens and homesteading.

Day 7–13 update on our classroom chicks 🐣

The embryos are developing quickly now. When we candle the eggs we can see the network of veins that carries nutrients to the growing chick.

There is way less yoke this week than last week. Our scholars learned that the chick is absorbing the yoke as a food source. By the end of this stage the chicks have forming beaks, wings, and feathers.

These little scientists are caring for living things — whether chickens or gardens. Both require consistency and responsibility 💪🏽🫶🏾🐓

Replying to Do it!!!

We did curriculum for life cycles which included some biology, we added ecosystem lessons, a little Econ for how to make money off backyard chickens as well, talked about l how they help us in the garden, added a little vocab and video on embryo growth plus a what to expect on hatch days.

I don’t know what we are going to do with all these chicks we have 🥹 I can only comfortably add 4 more to my flock 😬 10 my absolute max

One kid even said he was going to try with Mason jars at his house with green onions and thyme 🧅 🪴

This was so easy to set up and very low maintenance. Even without a pump I was able to keep the tanks clean and algae free. I change out water with hydroponic system solution biweekly and ensure the rock wool cubes are wet before I leave the school on Fridays.
