There’s something magical about watching hundreds of hot air balloons rise into the New Mexico sky at the world-famous Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque.🎈

What started back in 1972 with just 13 balloons launching from a shopping center parking lot has now grown into the largest hot air balloon festival in the world, drawing pilots and spectators from across the globe every single year.

One of the coolest things about hot air balloons is that no two flights are exactly alike. Since balloons travel completely with the wind, pilots can guide altitude, but they can’t fully control the exact landing spot. Another fun fact? Many of the uniquely shaped balloons you see, from animals to cartoon characters, are called “special shapes,” and they’ve become one of the festival’s biggest attractions.

Our friend Cody joined us on our very first Hot Air Balloon Festival sharing one of her favorite memories from the experience.

“For me what stood out was how many different size and shapes the balloon can be!! I also learned that it’s not just the pilot of the balloon but he had a whole team/crew with him. They all help to set the balloon up and help get it in the air, then they fallow us in a van with a trailer and are in communication with the pilot to follow us to where we land. They also don’t have an exact spot for landing, that can hope for a certain spot, but it all depends on the wind. For example, we landed in someone’s backyard! That was definitely unexpected.”

Experiences like this are what make travel unforgettable, not just seeing something beautiful, but learning the stories, teamwork, and traditions behind it all.

The red poppy became a symbol of Memorial Day after they bloomed across the battlefields of World War I, growing where so many heroes had fallen. Today, it stands as a reminder of sacrifice, courage, and the freedom we enjoy because of those who gave everything.

With today’s technology, Her Wilderness could easily slap together some fake AI-generated flyers, prompting an “outdoorsy” girl with perfect hair, spotless boots, holding up a fish that clearly doesn’t even exist…

Instead, we choose the authentic route. The real route. The passion-fueled, coffee-powered, late-night brainstorming route. The route filled with true authentic and creative personality!

Every trip we create comes straight from our own hearts, experiences, mistakes, laughs, and adventures. Every piece of content you see is built from real women, real memories, real dirt on our boots, and real excitement for helping others step outside their comfort zones.

Because honestly, the way a business markets itself tells you everything you need to know about them…

We’re not fake.
We don’t half-ass anything.
And we still believe social media should actually be, social!

Not just perfectly promted posts from behind a screen, but real conversations, real community, real questions, real friendships, and real women cheering each other on along the way.
