I have met a lot of small business owners along my own business path and one thing I've noticed about small business owners...

People often think bookkeeping is all about taxes.

In reality, good bookkeeping helps you answer questions like:
✔️ Can I afford to hire someone?
✔️ Is this new piece of equipment really in the budget?
✔️ Which products or services are actually making me money?
✔️ Am I charging enough?

Taxes are important, but good bookkeeping helps you make better decisions all year lon, not just in April.

One thing I've learned from running my own business is that the bank account doesn't always tell the whole story.

There have been months where the bank balance looked great, but after accounting for inventory, upcoming bills, and expenses, the business wasn't as profitable as it seemed.

There have also been months where the bank account felt lower than I'd like, but the business was actually having a strong month.

That's why good bookkeeping matters.

It's not just about taxes.

It's about understanding your business well enough to make confident decisions.

That's one of the reasons I started Marquardt Ledger. I enjoy helping make the numbers make sense.

The biggest bookkeeping mistake isn't making mistakes...it's waiting too long to fix them.

One of the things I've learned as a small business owner is that bookkeeping rarely falls behind because someone doesn't care. It usually happens because you're busy doing what actually makes your business money.

You're serving customers. You're answering calls. You're ordering inventory. You're trying to keep everything moving.

Before you know it, a month turns into several months.

Whether you do your own bookkeeping or hire someone, staying on top of it gives you a much clearer picture of how your business is really doing.
