It’s fire prevention week and we as a fire department strive to educated our kids on fire safety. Today we will be at the Georgetown school teaching them about fire safety. Part of that will be an actual fire drill. We will be responding with a couple trucks so they can see what it looks like when we show up on a scene. You will see and hear lights and sirens. No worries it’s all a drill and hopefully the kids come home with story for you tonight.

Bear Lake County Fire District will release the burn ban Sept 24th 2026. All fires except camp fires and cooking fires need permits. Call the sheriffs office at 208 945 2121 ext 1 to get a permit. Only natural untreated wood can be burned. Field burning also requires a DEQ permit along with a county permit. Happy burning and burn safely.

🚒💧 How long will your fire engine’s water really last?

A full tank may sound like plenty—but once the nozzle opens, those gallons can disappear in just minutes.

🔥 1,000 gallons at 250 GPM = about 4 minutes.

That’s why securing a reliable water supply early matters.

Know your tank. Know your flow. Don’t run dry.

🚨 NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS LEVEL RAISED TO PL5 🚨

As of 7:30 a.m. on July 18, the National Multi-Agency Coordination Group (NMAC) has raised the nation to Preparedness Level 5 (PL5)—the highest national wildfire preparedness level in the United States.

A PL5 designation signifies that wildfire activity has reached extreme levels across the country. Firefighting resources are heavily committed, with multiple large and complex incidents occurring simultaneously. As a result, the availability of additional crews, engines, aircraft, incident management teams, and specialized equipment may become increasingly limited as agencies prioritize resources where they are needed most.

This is a reminder of the tremendous demands being placed on our wildland firefighters and support personnel. Stay informed, be prepared, and do your part to help prevent human-caused wildfires.

Stay safe. Stay vigilant.

I want to give a huge shout out to the first responders yesterday! Many of you may have heard or seen emergency vehicles on the move. The fire department had 3 stations and with 8 trucks out at one time, Ems had all 4 ambulances out at once only to drop someone off at the hospital and be called to another person in distress. Sheriffs office was back to back calls. From traumatic injuries, community celebrations, simple assist calls we had them all. I know of many agencies were involved. 3 life flights, 3 state troopers, garden city fire, local fire, ems, sheriffs office, Fish and game, parks and rec, dispatch, hospital and a lot of good hearted people helping. What a great sight to see. At 4:30 this morning the last fire apparatus, sheriff deputy and state trooper left the last scene enroute home only to wonder what today will bring.

Activity is picking up, from testing equipment and new hydrant systems. Add a couple lighting strikes, camper fire and a road side mower causing a small fire. Then add a couple accidents and some rescues off the lake. Planning meeting with Rich County for ways to improve communication on the lake. Kudos to all those people that make things happen behind the scenes!!!
