We got a call the other day from a spot that needed their back bar set up for 6 taps, asap, ahead of their grand opening. The unit had clearly been set up that way before, but the draft equipment had been scrapped at some point.

We put in two new stainless 3-tap towers with stainless faucets, a new gas manifold, new lines, and stainless couplers. We also added a second regulator to set one of the lines up for Guinness. They're all set and ready to pour.

Yes, it's true. You should have your b**r lines cleaned every two weeks.

This is cleaning solution recirculating through a set of draft lines. It went in blue. This is 20 seconds later.

That's yeast, b**r stone, and biofilm that builds up inside the tubing between cleanings. Every pint poured through those lines picked some of it up on the way to the glass. Bi-weekly cleaning is the industry standard for a reason. Go longer and this is what's waiting in the line.

Something just ain't right.

That's not stout. That's line cleaner pulling months of yeast, mold, and b**r stone out of a draft line at a new client's bar.

Here's the thing: this bar was already paying someone to clean their lines. Every pint they served ran through all of that.

New client, first visit. Lines on a schedule isn't the same as lines actually getting cleaned.

Gross-Out Alert! 🚨

These are faucet parts we pulled from a draft system that was already being serviced by another tap cleaner before us. This wasn’t a case of neglect, the owner was paying for regular cleanings. Unfortunately, the job just wasn’t being done properly.

Tower and cooler setup we installed at Regal Auburn for Ultra Flow.

This cooler has a built-in "glycol chiller" that keeps the tap tower cold, instead of the usual fan blowing cold air up into the tower. First time we've worked with this style. In theory the chiller should hold tower temp better than a fan, which means less foam on the first pour. Tradeoff is it takes up cooler space and adds complexity.

Auburn is outside our regular service area, so this was a one-time project.

Gave this beast of a tap tower the full treatment this week. 30 taps, all clean. 🍺

Full caustic recirculation, faucets torn down, and couplers thoroughly cleaned. Everything's rinsed and back to pouring the way the brewery intended.

If your b**r tastes off or your foam won't settle, your lines are trying to tell you something. Regular professional cleaning is the difference between good b**r and gross b**r.

This system had been neglected for quite some time, but thank goodness new management saw the need to replace it and start fresh.

New panels, trunk line, stainless steel keg couplers, and a glycol power pack are the main highlights. We also rebuilt the 6-tap tower with fresh lines and insulation, and converted 2 taps on their other 4-tap tower to nitro taps. Along the way we also found a pretty significant CO2 leak that had gone unnoticed for some time. Note: you shouldn't have to change your co2 tank out every 1-2 days.

It was a long day, but by the time we left the b**rs were pouring perfectly.

We can't stress enough the importance of having your b**r lines cleaned bi-weekly and keeping your equipment maintained. It saves you money, keeps your b**r pouring the way the brewer intended, and helps you avoid a full rebuild like this one.

Well, Meta finally did it.

Last week, Tapworks Northwest — along with thousands of other b**r, w**e, and spirits-related businesses — got an email from Facebook saying our page would no longer be recommended by their algorithms. The reason? "Community Standards violations." Which ones? They won't say. How do we appeal? The link doesn't work.

For those keeping score: we clean b**r lines. We don't sell alcohol. We don't advertise alcohol. We post photos of clean draft systems and the occasional bar we're proud to service.

Apparently that's enough.

The upshot is that fewer people will see our Facebook posts going forward. The best ways to keep up with us:
