🔥 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK 2026

As Fire Prevention Week comes to a close, we wanted to share a little of our visit to MVG Schools and remind everyone just how important fire safety really is.

Yesterday, we had the privilege of wrapping up Fire Prevention Week with a visit to MVG’s Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade students. Fire Chief Kevin Hooper and Assistant Chief Jeremy Hooper handed out goody bags, showed the kids a fire truck and their firefighting gear, talked with them about fire safety, and what to do in an emergency. Most importantly, we wanted them to understand that firefighters are there to help, even when we’re wearing all the big, scary-looking gear.

A big thank you to the teachers and students for welcoming us into your classrooms! We sure enjoyed spending time with you all.

As volunteer firefighters, we’ve seen firsthand just how devastating fires can be. We’ve witnessed families, friends, and neighbors lose their homes, belongings, and tragically, even loved ones. Some of our own firefighters have experienced the heartbreak and lasting effects of fire within their own families. These are experiences that stay with you and serve as powerful reminders of why fire prevention and education matter so much.

Fire Prevention Week may be over, but fire safety matters every day. Take a few minutes to check your smoke alarms, make an escape plan, and talk with your family about fire safety.

Stay safe, Mountain View!

🚒 Public Service Announcement:

Before anybody says, “I’ve got some better ones at the house..”

No, you don’t. 😎

Come on out to Tolbert Park in Mountain View at dark thirty and let us do what we do best; make the sky loud without making the grass catch fire. (That’s the goal anyway)

Happy 4th of July. See y’all tonight! 🇺🇸

🚨 SEVERE WEATHER & SIREN INFORMATION
We’ve seen questions and discussions about when tornado sirens are activated, and we want to provide clear, accurate information for our community.

🔊 What are sirens for?
Outdoor warning sirens are designed to alert people who are outside that there is an immediate threat in our area and they need to seek shelter right away.

🌪️ When ARE sirens activated?
Sirens are typically sounded when:
• A tornado has been sighted or radar-confirmed near or moving toward Mountain View
• There is an imminent threat to our community
• In some cases, during extreme, life-threatening storm conditions directly impacting our area

🚫 When are they NOT activated?
Sirens are not sounded for every county-wide tornado warning. Counties can cover large areas, and storms may be many miles away or even in a neighboring community but headed in the opposite direction- no direct threat to our town.

⚠️ Why not sound them every time?
Overusing sirens can lead to “warning fatigue” where people begin to ignore them or not see the urgency when they are set off. This can be dangerous when a real emergency does in fact occur.

⚫️ Important to know:
Sirens are not designed to alert people inside homes. They may not always be heard indoors and are only one part of a warning system.

⚫️ What about those without smartphones or alerts?
We care deeply about every member of our community. That’s why it’s important to have multiple ways to receive warnings, including:
• NOAA Weather Radios
• TV weather alerts
• Phone notifications
• Checking on neighbors and loved ones, especially elderly or disabled.

⚫️A Quick Reminder:
During severe weather, please rely on official sources for information such as the National Weather Service, local emergency management, and trusted news outlets. Social media pages and word-of-mouth can sometimes share incomplete, opinion rooted, or inaccurate information.

⚫️ Our Commitment
Every decision to activate sirens is made carefully, based on real-time information and with the safety of Mountain View as our top priority.

We are proud to serve this community and appreciate your support in helping keep everyone informed and safe. Stay safe and always weather aware Mountain View.
The Mountain View Volunteer Fire Department

03/17/2026

The Mountain View Fire Department would like to extend our appreciation to the community for their concern and support following the recent fire near town. We understand that incidents of this nature can create anxiety and draw understandable attention from residents.

However, it is critical to emphasize the importance of keeping emergency scenes clear of pedestrians and civilian traffic. During this recent event, there were several instances where civilian vehicles and bystanders entered the active response area. These interruptions slow our ability to work efficiently and, more importantly, create dangerous conditions that could result in serious injury or even loss of life.

To ensure the safety of both our responders and the community, we respectfully ask that all non‑essential personnel maintain a safe distance and avoid the area entirely during emergency operations. Clear access allows our crews to focus fully on the situation at hand and ensures that everyone stays safe.

Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and continued support.
