September was a record breaking month in more ways than one. We completed the highest number of recoveries in our company’s history, while the fuel prices we faced also reached record highs.
I am incredibly proud of our team and the hard work, focus, and adaptability behind this achievement.
Part of that success came directly from operational changes prompted by the fuel crisis. We evaluated mileage, total invoice amounts, and client scorecards to determine whether our coverage commitments made financial sense.
When we could not secure the fuel surcharge policy changes necessary to sustain our existing service area, we reduced our coverage radius. We continued servicing assignments outside that radius when clients approved non-contingent mileage.
Concentrating our resources within a smaller area contributed directly to our record recovery volume. It also reinforced why coverage must reflect the actual cost of servicing assignments.
Client scorecards matter, but they must be considered alongside operating costs and profitability. Recovery volume alone does not determine whether the work is sustainable.
September was a learning curve for our entire team. The results reinforced the importance of using data, setting boundaries, and making business decisions that support the long term health of the company.
Saying no is okay. Sometimes, saying no is a necessity to protect our employees, maintain service quality, and continue delivering results.
