Born and raised in California, Kim Ogden moved to Oklahoma with a passion for making a difference in the lives of those she encounters everyday.
Influenced by the passion of her second grade teacher, coupled with her high school experience as a teacher’s aid, Kim Ogden has known since childhood that she wanted to become a teacher.
“My high school English teacher knew my game plan for the future and actually helped me secure an opportunity teach a second grade class.”
Kim and her husband made the decision to move to Oklahoma in 2018, looking for a town, a community they could call home.
“We picked Muskogee because we wanted a small town that would meet the needs of our family, a place where we could fit in. Muskogee has given us everything we wanted, proximity to bigger cities like Tulsa and educational opportunities for children.”
Learning to love math as a child and the importance of the subject that impacts so many decisions and outcomes, Kim Ogden eagerly looks forward to the opportunities working with her students at Muskogee HS while teaching Algebra II, a subject that is NOT the everyday choice of many?
“It’s everyone’s favorite class, right? Kim said with a BIG smile. “My everyday goal is that my students learn “something”. Math is more than just solving the problems in class but more about the thinking process. It’s not just one way to find the right answer but how you arrived at solving the equation.
Because of the endless support available for every student, Kim is confident Muskogee students can achieve any goal, find the right answer to any subject as well as for the challenges they encounter in their daily lives.
“I’ve got students that tell me, I don’t get this. Before school, lunch periods, after school whatever it takes, I’m here to help them find not just the right answer to the problem but also the confidence that even if I make a mistake, I’m going to learn something and eventually get to the right answer because they know how to use the process to obtain it. Not just in math class but in each decision they make in life.”
From the break of light each morning to the end of the day each night, Kim Ogden cherishes the opportunity to be a part of the Rougher Nation.
“Muskogee has a bunch of great kids and Muskogee High School has endless opportunities to get involved and achieve victory while student are also developing pride in themselves. And because of the commitment of our school system as well as our town, on good days or when those when you struggle with life’s challenges, there’s always someone ready to help, to encourage me. All you have to do is ask. And remember this…“If you’re not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you’re determined to learn, no one can stop you.”
Away from school, Kim Ogden is a family first person, doing things with her husband Jared, Sr. along with the her five children and of course spending time with her grandson. With two of her five children currently involved with the Rougher Regiment, going to band contests are always fun. And, in her quiet moments, she enjoys reading a book.
