It’s been an honor to know and work with Laura! We hope she is enjoying retirement!!

Today, we honor Laura Lott, the first President of TAPED and Chairperson of SWCED, for her unwavering commitment and leadership over the last five decades! 🏆✨

In the fall of 1976, the first regional conference was held at a local hotel conference center. It was a modest beginning, but Laura and other passionate advocates had a vision. As the years passed, the regional conference grew into a major statewide event, culminating in the first-ever statewide conference in 1984.

But the work didn't stop there! Laura, alongside other key figures, recognized the need for a unified voice for educators and parents of students who are deaf/hard of hearing in Texas. This led to the founding of T.A.P.E.D. (Texas Association of Parents and Educators for the Deaf), where Laura was elected the first President.

Her leadership, along with the efforts of pioneers like Sharon Tallet, Dorine Cunningham, Joe Burkes, Arlene Stein, Jean DeSalle, and Dianne Fisher, laid the foundation for what TAPED is today – a thriving, influential network for our community. 🌟

From regional meetings to statewide conferences, Laura's vision has helped shape the landscape of deaf education in Texas, creating countless opportunities for growth, collaboration, and advocacy. Her legacy continues to inspire and drive the mission forward.

Here's to 50 years of memories, growth, and progress! 🎉👏
