The difference between damage and disaster.

TROPICAL UPDATE: Tropical Storm remains possible in the Atlantic in the days ahead. Here's the latest as of Tuesday evening:

1) Models have shifted more west over the past 24 hours. Again worth mentioning that models can occasionally struggle with track before a system has actually developed. It does better by comparison after a closed low has formed.

2) Currently, there are at least three different scenarios how this plays out over the next week. 1) Heads into the Caribbean and gets shredded apart from high wind shear and dry Saharan dust the more west it goes. Only a few models have it surviving in that case. 2) Heads into the Caribbean, but then turns northward back into the Atlantic...potentially interacting with land in the process. Better chance to survive if it stays over water longer. 3) Avoids the Caribbean and stays on the northern side of models...which could also produce a stronger system when comparing all options.

3) If it impacts the eastern Caribbean, it would be this Saturday (8/15) - Monday (8/17). Too early to know if those impacts will be as just a rainmaker or an organized tropical system. Regardless, some of the islands desperately need rain and have an opportunity to get some.

4) The United States is just monitoring for now, nothing more. A lot of potential obstacles ahead for this tropical wave, including high shear, Saharan dust and even land in the Caribbean to name a few!
