What happens when you put a room full of facilitators together for a week?

A whole lot of "yes, and..."

Last week I was in Toronto with The Engagement Architects at an unconference built around co-creating, facilitation, experience design, DISC, Working Genius, leadership development, and engagement activities.

But honestly, it wasn't even the content that made it special. It was the people.

Salt of the earth. Generous. Passionate. All-in on helping each other bring more value to our clients. Ideas building on ideas. No competition. Just collaboration.

Grateful to Tessa Kampen for creating this community - and for the reminder that we go further together.

I think sometimes we feel a little proud of ourselves when we call people out.

We spotted it. We said it. We exposed the issue. We told the truth.

But there's a higher level than calling people out:
Calling them up.

I've had a few people tell me some of my posts feel like they're calling them out. But that's never really the goal.

The goal is to call people up.

Up to ownership. Up to growth. Up to discipline. Up to the standard they're capable of living at.

Calling people out may create awareness.

Calling them up can create change.

Anyone can criticize. Leadership sees more in people than they currently see in themselves.

Being a solopreneur can feel like carrying everything at once.

Every decision. Every task. Every direction. All on you.

This is the work I love. Not adding more to someone's plate - but helping them see what actually matters and build momentum from there.

Clarity changes everything.

If you're feeling pulled in a hundred directions, you're not alone. And you don't have to figure it out by yourself.

I heard something recently that blew my mind.

When Queen Elizabeth II died at 96, she had lived about one-third of the entire history of the United States.

One-third.

Everything this country has become - every invention, every movement, every transformation - happened in roughly three human lifetimes.

The Declaration of Independence. The end of slavery. Women's right to vote. The lightbulb. The automobile. Flight. Space travel. The internet. AI.

All of it. Three lifetimes.

Think about what's possible in that kind of time. Now think about what's possible in yours.

250 years ago, this country didn't exist. What will you do with your next 10? 20? 30?

If you've been telling yourself it's too late or too hard - it's not. You just haven't seen what's possible yet.

I get to work with leaders every day who surprise themselves. Sometimes they come in with goals - sometimes just hopes. Months later, they're dreaming bigger because they've seen what's actually possible.

You don't know what you're capable of until you start building toward it.

What's one thing you've been putting off that you're ready to start?

Feeling stuck? Overwhelmed? Too much on your plate?

Try this. Brain dump.

Get everything out of your head and onto paper. All of it.

Don’t filter. Just write.

Now look at the list and ask yourself one question:

If I could only get one thing done, what would it be?

What would move the needle? What would have the biggest impact? What’s most critical?

That’s your priority.

Don’t overthink it. The goal is to move.

This keeps you from defaulting to easy, mindless tasks and helps you focus on what actually matters.

When it’s done, go back to the list and ask the question again.

Keep moving. Keep doing. Don’t get stuck in indecision or overwhelm.

This works for everything:
→ Your to-do list
→ Your business priorities
→ Your team’s focus

And it works at every level:
→ Today
→ This week
→ This quarter
→ Right now

When everything feels urgent, nothing is.

Clarity isn’t found. It’s decided.

What’s your one thing today?

Got to spend time with a leadership class at Liberty Center High School this week - a school that's been part of our family's story for years.

The topic: leading yourself first.

Before you can lead anyone else well, you have to learn to lead yourself.

And that starts with awareness.

I introduced them to something called the Drama Triangle - a framework that shows where most of us default when things get hard. The Victim says "life happens to me." The Persecutor blames. The Rescuer tries to fix everyone else.

We all go there sometimes. It's human.

But the shift? That's where it gets good.

Victim becomes Creator - "I have a choice."
Persecutor becomes Challenger - "I believe you can do better."
Rescuer becomes Coach - "How can I help you figure this out?"

Same situation. Different lens. And it changes everything.

I asked them a question I'll ask you too:

Do you see yourself as living at the mercy of those around you - or as someone empowered to create the life you want?

Leadership starts with how you answer that.

Great leaders lead themselves first - and then help others through the same process.

Grateful for the chance to invest in the next generation.

This one meant a lot.

The truth is, growth usually is uncomfortable.
But when you have clarity and a plan, it starts to feel a lot more like momentum than chaos.

Grateful for the people I get to walk alongside in this work ❤️

"It's faster if I just do it myself."
..until it isn't.

If you've ever thought this, you're not alone — most leaders have.

But that's not a time problem. That's a clarity problem.

When you hold onto work that doesn't require you, you're not protecting quality. You're creating a bottleneck. The right person, with fewer competing priorities, can often do it better — not because they're more capable overall, but because it gets their full attention instead of the last 5 minutes of your day.

Delegation isn't offloading. It's how you free yourself for the work only you can do — and how you grow the people around you.

A good handoff takes 10 minutes of intentional prep:

→ Share the why — not just the what
→ Define what done actually looks like
→ Name the ownership level explicitly
→ Ask for a confidence check before you walk away

This week's move: find one task you've been holding onto that doesn't require your vision, insight, or relationships — and hand it off with intention.

You might be surprised — not just by the result, but by how good it feels to empower others.

(And yes, you'll be tempted to take it back. Don't. 😄)

My bookcase is packed with leadership books. I've read more than I can count.

But the best lessons lately? They've come from real conversations with real teams.

I've led five quarterly sessions over the past couple of weeks and one theme keeps standing out: Culture is a game changer.

I asked one team about the worst job they ever had. Every single answer came back to culture.

→ Never acknowledged by their boss or peers
→ Talked down to by leaders or the boss's family members
→ No support when they needed it
→ Integrity issues that made it hard to trust anyone

I even had a coaching call recently with an HR professional dealing with a boss who takes credit for her work.

These aren't rare stories. They're everywhere.

People don't leave jobs. They leave environments where they can't do their best work.

Culture shapes whether people show up checked in or checked out.

Whether they give discretionary effort or just enough to get by.

Whether they stay or start looking.

Leaders aren't the only ones shaping culture. Peers shape it too.

Every interaction, every response, every moment of acknowledgment or silence - it all adds up.

Everyone on your team gets to help create the kind of environment that attracts great people and keeps them.

You might not control everything. But you control how you show up. And that shapes more than you think.

Let's show up well.👊

We ran out of seats.

Not exactly something you plan for… but I’ll take it every time.

I had the opportunity to spend time with the team at Dental Excellence of Sylvania this week, and watching their growth has been incredible. Not just in size, but in how they operate.

They handle challenges like pros. Getting to solutions faster. Leaving aligned, committed, and working as one.

What stood out most? Their values are alive.

The team shared real stories of their core values in action. Not forced, not surface-level. Just how they show up.

And when it came to their mission to change the way people think about dentistry, there was no hesitation. They know why they come to work every morning. They own it.

That’s team engagement.

Growth isn’t just adding people. It’s building alignment as you grow.

Even if it means grabbing a few extra chairs next time.
